improved the reading comprehension through skimming and scanning practice.

been inspired to work hard by the character in the text
Teaching procedure:
I. Lead in :
Play a piece of music and introduce the topic of the text.
II. While reading
1. Introduce Toscanini briefly and ask students to skim the text and match the
headings with the paragraphs.
2. Lead students to scan paragraphs A, B, H &I, and then fill the table.
3. Lead students to scan paragraphs C and then answer questions.
4. Lead students to scan paragraphs D and find out elements to make Toscanini a
great conductor
5. Lead students to scan paragraphs E, F&G and describe some detailed
examples about the quality of Toscanini
III. Post-task
1. What do you think of Toscanini?
2. What qualities make a person successful?
IV. Homework:
1 Underline some important phrases.

3Retell the text by referring to the information listed by the teacher.
