Teaching Procedures Step1 Greeting Ask some Ss to report the uses of some important words and expressions learnt in the last period. Step2 Word power Ask Ss to guess the disease according to the hints. 1．sudden illness with violent beating of heart attack---heart attack 2．the system that controls the blood sugar level goes wrong---diabetes 3．It can develop in any part of people’s body, often causing death. Now no way can be used to cure this disease. ---cancer Step3 Read and speak （1）A: Karen is studying an entry about diseases in the children’s encyclopedia．Read the entry with her. Ask Ss to go through the passage to understand the words in blue. And try to find out the symptoms (症状)，ways of preventing and causes of each disease. （2） B: Karen also found in the encyclopedia a spidergram of the different ways in which medicines can be used on the human body. Match the words with the pictures. Step 4 Read and understand C: After reading the encyclopedia, Karen took some notes for a school project. Use the information we learnt just now to help Karen complete her notes. （1）Complete the exercise of Part C.
