Unit 8 Rules Are Rules! The First Period 【教学目标】 1.知识目标 (1)重点单词: authority, cafeteria, delay, tire, forbid, treat, liberty, perform, bounce, criterion, passive, tiresome. (2)重点短语: back off, sort of, hang on, break off, be subject to. (3)能听懂、会说句型: a.I’ve got this hot new sports car and I want you to come for a ride. b.That Danny was heavily fined for what he had done was absolutely understandable. 2.语言技能目标 (1)理解并掌握新词的及应用。 (2)理解文章主旨:通过上下文克服生词困难,理解语篇意义,提高阅读能力。 3.情感态度、文化意识、学习策略。 在“学生为主体”的思想指导下,让学生成为课堂的主人,形成有效的“生生互动”,“和 谐对话”,同时借助多媒体的优势使学生主动融入课堂教学情境之中,以调动学生积极性,激 发学生参与课堂的潜能,建立良好的课堂氛围,真正发挥情感教学的优势。 【教学重点】 1.学习并掌握重点单词: authority, cafeteria, delay, tire, forbid, treat, liberty, perform, bounce, criterion, passive, tiresome. 2.学习并掌握重点短语: back off, sort of, hang on, break off, be subject to. 3.能听懂、会说句型: a.I’ve got this hot new sports car and I want you to come for a ride. b.That Danny was heavily fined for what he had done was absolutely understandable. 【教学难点】 1.学生对本课文章内容主旨大意的准确理解。 2.重点单词、短语、句型在实际情境中的运用与表达。 【教学准备】 1.教师准备:多媒体课件、音响。 2.学生准备:课本及其他学习用品。 【教学过程】 Step 1 Warming up and greeting Daytime greeting to every student. Step 2 Presentation Show the picture of "authority, cafeteria, delay, tire, forbid, treat, liberty, perform, bounce, criterion, passive, tiresome" and ask students to describe them. Then write down the words on the board. Step 3 Reading First reading: ask students to read the passage "Rules Are Rules!" and find out the words that they don't know. Then teacher explains the words that they don't know. Second reading: ask students to listen to the tape and read it again and think about the following questions: Rules are rules. If you break the rules or laws, you have to pay a price. Would you like to know what happened to Danny, Li Ming and Jenny when they failed to follow the rules? Then ask students to answer the questions. Third reading: read the passage again and finish exercises in section 2c Step 4 Non-stop talk 1.Let's talk: Rules are rules. 2.As a rule, if you fail to get satisfactory grades in your courses, you cannot be promoted to a higher level of studies. Tim has not passed his final exams, and the principal talks with him about staying in the same grade until he gets better grades. Principal: Tim, your grades are not good this semester, and we cannot recommend you to move up to Grade 11. Tim: I don’t understand. I passed everything. I worked hard. Principal: Tim, you received a D in all of your courses. Tim: I didn’t try to please my teachers, and none of my teachers were easy graders. But, anyway, D is passing. Principal: A grade of D is barely passing. Students who receive a D in a course have not proved they know the material well enough. A student may receive a D in one course, and if all the other grades are good, he or she will be allowed to move up to the next level. However, you received a D in all of your courses. Under the circumstances, we cannot let you move up to the next level. Tim: That's not fair. I don't understand. I passed everything. You just don’t like me because I’m not smart enough. Principal: That isn't so. Liking you has nothing to do with it. Rules are rules. You will have to do better next semester. Work in pairs. Role-play the dialogue between the principal and Tim. Change roles. Create your own dialogues about the importance of following school rules. For instance, suppose one of you has been late for school recently, and the other (the principal) talks with him/her about school discipline! Step 5 Writing Expressing yourself through writing: Writing creatively md cooperatively. Step 6 Summary Ask a student to summarize the content we learned today. Step 7 Homework 1.Listen to the radio. 2.Review the new words and sentences. 3.Read the text. Unit 8 Rules Are Rules! The Second Period 【教学目标】 1.知识目标 理解并掌握主语用法。 2.语言技能目标 正确应用主语进行英语表达。 3.情感态度、文化意识、学习策略 在“学生为主体”的思想指导下,让学生成为课堂的主人,形成有效的“生生互动”,“和 谐对话”,同时借助多媒体的优势使学生主动融入课堂教学情境之中,以调动学生积极性,激 发学生参与课堂的潜能,建立良好的课堂氛围,真正发挥情感教学的优势。 【教学重点】 主语用法的讲解。 【教学难点】 主语的理解与掌握。 【教学准备】 1.教师准备:多媒体课件、音响。 2.学生准备:课本及其他学习用品。 【教学过程】 Step 1 Warming up and greeting Daytime greeting to every student. Step 2 Presentation 1.The subject of a sentence or clause is the person or thing that is doing the action expressed by the verb. In English, different things can serve as the subject of a sentence or clause. It’s time for us to make a summary. 2.Sometimes, however, a subject does not appear position in the sentence. For example: How long does it take to get back to school? In this sentence, the real subject (to get back to school) comes at the end of the sentence, and the formal subject it takes the position of the subject of the sentence. Ask students to memorize this part for ten minus and then ask them to close books to explain the grammar from this part in their own words. Step 3 Danny's grammar questions: 1.In the sentence "I sort of borrowed it from my dad", what does sort of mean? What is its function in terms of grammar? 2.Look at this sentence: "I'm going to let you all write the exam tomorrow morning at nine o'clock sharp." What does the word sharp mean? What is its grammatical function? After the discussion, students summarize the answers to the questions and make group presentations, then prepare to be evaluated by the teacher. Step 4 Fun of the Unit! Enjoy those fun stories in the book. Step 5 Summary and Homework Ask a student to summarize the grammar we learned today, and to finish other exercises this part in book. After the students have finished thinking about the problems, teacher emphasizes the important point or asks the students to answer the questions and checks the answers. Step 4 Practice Finish the reading for strategies in P96. Step 5 Summary Ask a student to summarize the content we learned today. Step 6 Homework 1.Listen to the radio. 2.Review the new words and sentences. 3.Read the text.
