In the UK, there is a popular route for cyclists: the road from Land's End in England
to John O'Groats in Scotland. It is 874 miles long and it covers almost the full length of
Great Britain. A 12-year-old boy named Laurence Chandler became the youngest cyclist
to finish the route. Chandler wanted to raise( 筹 集 ) money for Smile Train. It is a
children's charity(慈善组织).
Chandler took 20 days to finish the route. Every day, he rode his bike between 40 and 60 miles. He spent 6 hours
riding his mountain bike every day. It was hard to ride on bad days, and riding uphill was also hard.
“It was much harder than I thought. There were so many hills and the roads were busy,” Chandler said. “But if
you put your mind to anything, you can do it no matter how hard it is.”
Chandler read a newspaper about the route two years ago. Later, when his father's 50th birthday came, he decided to go
for it. He rode his bike around his village and to school before starting his journey. After finishing the great trip,
Chandler raised 600 pounds.
