1 Module7 Unit4 Public Transport The first underground in the world ReadingⅠ 一、学情分析 1.教学对象为高二年级学生。高二年级学生经过一年多的高中英语学习,已经具 备了一点语言功底,部分学生能较为自如地表达自己对一些事物的观点,班上同 学间的合作学习也有了些发展。 2.本节课的话题是 The first underground in the world(世界上第一条地铁),这是 关于 Public transport(公共交通)的问题,更是全球都关注的话题,城市里的学 生每天上学回家都有可能遭遇到交通堵塞,尤其上下班高峰期、节假日出行都非 常困难,在教学中渗透文明出行、出行安全等情感教育。 二、教材分析 本节课是阅读教学的第一课时,该部分是一篇介绍世界上第一条地铁 ——伦敦地铁发展历史的旅游宣传手册(brochure)。通过对这部分的学习,要求 学生对伦敦铁路建造的历史发展过程有深刻的理解,同时也要求学生掌握旅游宣 传手册阅读策略的技巧。由于本课课文具有段落多、课文篇幅长、生词多、逻辑 性较强等特点,本节课的教学难点就放在帮助学生理解和掌握课文内容,通过预 测及归纳各段落中心思想来构建文本的整体框架;然后再运用 skimming & scanning 等技巧完成问答、填写表格、填词等练习,以加深对文本的理解,并掌 握旅游手册的阅读策略。最后,让学生通过巩固练习、讨论活动和写作等方式来 运用所学内容、加深对该话题的理解。 三、设计思路 1.本堂课采用任务型教学途径,因为淮安市为旅游城市,而阅读策略又是阅读旅 游手册,因此从旅游话题切入文章。既训练说的能力,更为了提高对身边事、社 会事的关注与思考。 2.由于课文偏长,在引导学生阅读时,尽可能设计一些紧扣课文内容的练习形式, 辅助他们比较轻松地抓住要点信息,如填空题、列时间表填空题、单项选择题、 简单的答问题等。 2 3.考虑到学生的学情,充分保护他们的积极性和热情是十分重要的。为了使学生 能更主动地学习课文、理解课文,除了帮助学生理清思路、概括大意、完成相应 练习之外,还指导他们提炼一些有用的短语、习惯搭配等,便于记忆运用。 Teaching aims 1.Develop students’ skills of reading a tourist brochure. 2.Improve students’ reading ability. 3.Get students to learn about the history of the first underground in the world. 4. Get students to talk about the ways of improving public transport in Huai'an. Teaching important and difficult points: 1. Help students know the development of the first underground in the world. 2. Help students use what they have learned to make suggestions. Teaching aids: PPT; The blackboard; The Multimedia Teaching procedures: Step 1: Brainstorming Lead-in Talk about various means of transport. 1. Ask students “How did you come to school this morning? And why?” 2. Talk about various means of transport. Show the pictures of different means of transport and talk about them. 3. Talk about the first underground in China and the first underground in the world. 【说明】先了解学生们对于不同交通工具的了解,引出本课的话题。让学生在一 个积极思维的过程中自然进入本课主题。 Step 2: Reading Strategy Have students read the Reading Strategy and know how to read a tourist brochure. 1. What is a tourist brochure ? 2. What would be included in a tourist brochure? 3 【说明】阅读课文前,通过阅读 旅游手册的阅读策略,对本文将提到的有关 世界上第一条地铁的信息进行预测,将阅读技巧的训练渗透于课堂教学之中。 Step 3:Reading Comprehension 1. Ask students to read the first paragraph and help them to analyze the reasons for the development of the first underground in the world. (Most railway tracks did not go to the London city centre,so buses,trams,cabs and carriages were required. The number of vehicles on the road caused unbelievable traffic jams. So the underground system was developed in London.) 2. Help students get the information of how the underground developed by filling in the diagram. Use different kinds of questions to help students know the development of the first underground. Charles Yerkes :He improved the underground system and set up the Underground Electric Railways Company of London. Charles Holden:He designed some famous underground stations. 4.Ask students to get the information of some interesting facts. Help students know the structure of the passage and the main idea of each part. Para 1 Some unusual uses of the first underground during World WarⅡ Para 2-4 Expansion and popularity of the first underground system Para 5 Reasons why the first underground was developed Para 6-7 Developments of the first underground before World WarⅡ 【说明】课文后 C1 部分的六个问题有些难,回答起来有些繁、多,改为简单的 答问题、填写表格、补全空格、选择题等多种练习形式的练习,不但降低难度, 还增加了趣味性,也增强了自信心,通过对文章结构的把握和段落大意的总结归 纳,更帮助学生加深对文本的理解。 Step 4: Discussion 1. Is it suitable to develop the underground system in Huai'an? Why? 2. What is your impression of the tram car? 3. What other ways can you think of to relieve the pressure of traffic jam? (Discuss with your group members to list as many useful ways as possible. ) Step5: Writing 淮安正在创建全国文明城市,作为淮安市民,我们应该为家乡创建贡献自己 的力量,请就如何改善交通拥堵问题,为政府献言献策。首句已给出,100 字左 右。 Huai'an is establishing a national civilized city, but traffic jam has long been a problem of great concern and complaint in our city. It has caused a lot of inconvenience to people’s life and work. 【说明】让学生通过讨论活动和写作等方式来运用所学内容、加深对该话题的理 解,并把所学的知识转化为能力,运用到为家乡交通改善作出自己的贡献中去。 5 Step6: Homework 1. Surf the Internet for more information about the first underground in the world. 2. Try to retell the development of the first underground in London. 3. Perfect your writing and send it to the government. 3. Write a composition about traffic congestion.
