For many people the answer is your Wedding Day—the day when you marry another person and promise to live together as husband and wife for the rest of your lives.‎ Wedding celebrations differ from country to country—in China the bride wears red while in India the wedding continues for three days. However, in Britain the bride wears white and wedding usually only lasts for one day.‎ In the UK it is possible to get married in a religious or civil ceremony. A religious ceremony takes place in a church. A civil ceremony, on the other hand, can be held in an office, in a hotel, or even on a boat.‎ On the day of the wedding the bride and groom are kept separate until the ceremony. It is said to be bad luck if the groom sees the bride in her dress before the wedding. The bride arrives at the ceremony accompanied by her father and bridesmaids. They officially give her away to her new husband. During the ceremony the happy couple exchange vows and give each other wedding rings which they will wear forever. At the end of the ceremony they kiss.‎ Afterwards they go outside where friends and family throw rice or color papers over them and then they go on to the reception where there is a lot of food and drink. After the meal the father of the bride and the best man make speeches. Then the bride and groom take the first dance. It is a lot of fun. Finally, at the end of the party the newly-weds leave to go on honeymoon, usually to a very romantic destination.‎ ‎24. To tell us Wedding day is the day when you marry another person and promise to live together.‎ ‎ C. To tell us that people hold wedding. ‎ ‎ D. The best man.‎ ‎26. What can we infer from the passage?‎ A. People all over the world pay a great deal attention to Wedding Day. ‎ B. In Britain the bride wears white. ‎ C. Wedding celebrations differ from country to country.‎ D. In India the wedding can continue for three days.‎ ‎27. Which of the following statements is NOT true?‎ ‎ A. People in Britain usually get married in a religious or civil ceremony.‎ B. On the wedding day, the bridegroom can’t see the bride in a dress.‎ C. But it will take researchers at least three years to isolate the bacteria before they can even start to develop a way of transferring it to cattle and sheep.‎ ‎ Another group of scientists, meanwhile, have suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos. And about 20 percent of health-conscious Australians are believed to eat the national symbol already.‎ ‎ It’s low in fat, it ’s got high protein levels and it is very clean in the sense that basically it is free-range(放养的) animal,” said Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales’ institute of environmental studies.‎ ‎28. Forget your studies for a while. It’s time to enjoy yourselves!‎ ‎ There are many ways to celebrate this special month of graduation. You can have photos taken with your classmates and teachers, or dine out together and exchange gifts.‎ ‎ High school students in western countries such as the United States and Canada usually have a party to mark their graduation. It is to mark the time when kids turn into young men and women. After the party, teenagers either go to college or find a job. It means they will no longer depend on their parents as before.‎ At the party, boys usually dress in dinner jackets and bow ties, though many different types of formal clothes are worn. Girls traditionally wear formal dresses, or dress to shock or be noticed, in shiny or brightly colored materials.‎ Common party activities include dining, dancing, crowning of a ball king and queen, and just talking to friends. In some cases, high school students collect funds for their class party through the four years of their high school.‎ High schools in or near large cities may rent big rooms at expensive hotels or, to be unusual, on a pleasure boat. But often costs are cut by simply using the school gym. Students make a lot of efforts to decorate the gym to make the event special. The music played at the party will be the most popular kinds, like rock and hip-hop.‎ Sometimes teachers and parents also go to the party. But others like to go with friends, to whom they are soon going to say good-bye.‎ If you like the idea of a party, why don’t you and your classmates organize one for your graduation?‎ ‎32. Here is some advice to solve this problem.‎ Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this teacher?” Even if you don’t worship his or her personality or lectures, dig deep until you find a subject in which he or she is very knowledgeable. Focus on that part of the teacher’s personality, and use him or her as a tool for learning. Not only will you gain more knowledge in that subject, but a closer relationship with your teacher may help you understand one another better. 37 ‎ Talk to students who are doing well in the class and ask them for tips, tools, and a plan of action to get along with the teacher better. 38 ‎ If you still can’t get along, make an appointment with the school guidance counselor (辅导员). What are you going to do?‎ M: I’m going to Africa. I’ve got a job as a doctor with a volunteer organization. They want me to go to Nigeria.‎ W: What? You’re joking!‎ M: Look, I didn’t tell you before because nothing was certain. But I got a formal offer this morning. Rosie, I will miss you very much, and I don’t want to end our relationship. But I want to see the world. You do understand, don’t you?‎ W: Oh, yes, I understand!‎ M: I’m really sorry, Rosie.‎ Text 9‎ W: Hi, Joe, many people in our department are leaving for Thanksgiving. What are you going to do?‎ M: I think I’ll just stay at home. I may see some friends and watch a few DVDs. And I probably would go to the Ottawa Car Show. What about you, Ariel? What’s your plan?‎ W: I am going to do some traveling with my family.‎ M: Oh, where to?‎ W: Toronto. And on our way, we’re going to visit my aunt Betty, in Kingston.‎ M: That’s exciting. How long do you plan to stay?‎ W: Two days. I have a get-together party with my college friends in Toronto. Oh, I’m afraid I’ve got to go now. My husband is waiting for me. And we’ll have to pick up Daniel from school. Have a nice holiday, Joe!‎ M: Thank you. You too.‎ Text 10‎ Good morning everyone. I’m Professor Garson and I will be your advisor this term.‎ This is your first day and I want to explain some of the subjects. First, everyone must take three required subjects: maths, English and history. The only one which is arranged for you is English. You’re to be tested and will be placed at your level in that subject. The only requirement for maths is that you’ve completed the previous level. History is open at all levels since study is usually divided into the different historical time periods. In history, you may choose from almost any culture and time. Unless you are studying at a specific cultural and time period, you’re free to choose the history course that you’re most interested in. As long as there’s place in the class, of course. Your optional courses are the subjects you can choose. They are courses that are not required and may be in fields such as science, art, sports, computer science, business — almost anything that you can think of. I can help you make a plan that will include your required and optional courses. Your plan must have the necessary number of units. Sometimes there may be no room in a course, but we can try to schedule the course for another term.‎ OK. That’s all for you. You may come to me if you have any questions after my speech.‎ ‎ ‎ 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费
