It was nothing to run to a drive-through to pick up a cold drink or a quick bite to eat. It was so easy to use my card for a small purchase. For me, I got a lot of satisfaction from fast food. One day I sat down and calculated that I was spending a surprising $40 a week on fast food. This was a lot of iced coffee and hamburgers! Instead of reducing my guilty pleasures, I decided to give myself a strong budget to reduce my consumption. Every Monday I placed an envelope with $20 in my purse. That was my fast food budget for the entire week. If there was anything left over at the end of the week, it was mine to save or spend. If I spent all of the money during the week, there were no more fast food stops that week. The budget made me more mindful of my purchases. Instead of purchasing a large drink from Sonic, I would purchase a small. It was sill satisfying but not nearly as pricey. Instead of eating a whole meal, I would pick the part that I actually wanted. Many days, the thought of hanging onto the money for a special purpose meant more to me than the instant satisfaction of fast food. I never really felt unhappy because it was a conscious choice to spend or save with each purchase. Envelope budget kept me honest. I had a clear idea how much money was spent each week on fast food purchases. I started to bring my lunches more often to save more money for the week. It was a fun challenge to see how much I could save every week. Changing the way I spent on fast food not only helped my budget, but improved my weight. In the first month I was able to get rid of 5 pounds by simply changing the way I approached spending on fast food. Now I am more likely to bring my lunch than to buy it. I am not upset, but empowered to make positive choices to improve my life. 25. According to Paragraph 1, the author _________. This year,25310 students who have accepted places in higher education institutions have put off their entry until next year, according to statistics on university entrance provided by the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). That is a record 14.7% increase in the number of students taking a gap year.Tony Higgins from UCAS said that the statistics are good news for everyone in higher education."Students who take a well﹣planned year out are more likely to be satisfied with, and complete, their chosen course.Students who take a gap year are often more mature and responsible,"he said. But not everyone is happy.Owain James, the president of the National Union of Students (NUS), argued that the increase is evidence of student hardship﹣young people are being forced into earning money before finishing their education."New students are now aware that they are likely to leave university up to£15,000 in debt.It is not surprising that more and more students are taking a gap year to earn money to support their study for the degree.NUS statistics show that over 40% of students are forced to work during term time and the figure increases to 90% during vacation periods,"he said. 29. What do we learn about the gap year from the text? A. It is flexible in length. B. It is a time for relaxation C. It is required by universities D. What would most students do on their vacation according to NUS statistics? A. Earn money for their education B. Make plans for the new term C. Attend additional courses. D. Prepare for their graduate studies. NUS statistics show that over 40% of students are forced to work during term time and the figure increases to 90% during vacation periods,"he said.(数据表明,40% 多的学生在学校兼职,90%的学生要在假期打工挣学费),由此可知根据全国学生联合会统计,大多 数学生为他们的教育挣钱,故选 A。 D On her first morning in America, last summer, my daughter went out to explore her new neighborhood alone. Of course we were worried; we had just moved from Berlin, and she was just 8. But when she came home, we realized we had no reason to worry. She told us with pride how she had discovered the little park around the corner, and had made friends with a few local dog owners. When this story comes up in conversations with American friends, we are usually met with polite disbelief.A study by the University of California has found that American kids spend 90 percent of their free time at home, often watching TV or playing video games. Even when kids are physically active, they are watched closely by adults, either in school, at home, at afternoon activities or in the car. It seems that America’s middle class has taken overprotective parenting to a new level, with the government even acting as a super nanny. Just take the example of the case of 10-year-old Rafi and 6-year-old Dvora Meitiv in 2015, in Silver Spring, Maryland, who were picked up by the police because their parents had dared to allow them to walk home from the park alone. The state’s Child Protective Services said their parents were guilty. In reality, child abductions (绑架) by strangers in Silver Spring park are as rare as tiger attacks. Children are overprotected, which encourages dependency and affects their abilities to care for themselves and weigh risks. Mark Hemingway writes in The Federalist, “You know what it’s called when kids make mistakes without adult supervision (监督) and have to struggle with the possible results? Growing up.” At least, parents who want to give their children more room to walk around shouldn’t be punished. Children are not easily damaged objects to be protected at all times. 33. Why does the author mention his daughter’s experience? A. To express his worry about her safety. B. To share the happiness of her growing up. C. To show she has the space to take risks alone. D. To encourage us to learn about the environment. 【答案】C 【解析】推理判断题。根据第六段中“Children are overprotected, which encourages dependency and affects their abilities to care for themselves and weigh risks.”可知孩子们被过于保护,会助长他们的依赖感并且 会影响他们照顾自己、衡量风险的能力。分析文章结构可知作者引用自己女儿的经历是想从正面表 达应该给孩子空间独自冒险。故选 C 项。 34. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us? A. How American kids are raised at present. B. Why many American kids like staying home. C. The necessity of supervising kids in America. 语篇解读:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了当今美国社会对孩子过于保护的现象,分析了形成其 中原因并提出了相应建议。D. The weaknesses of the American school system. 【答案】A 【解析】段落大意题。根据第四段中“A study by the University of California has found that American kids spend 90 percent of their free time at home, often watching TV or playing video games. Even when kids are physically active, they are watched closely by adults, either in school, at home, at afternoon activities or in the car.”可知一项研究表明美国孩子在家里90%时间是在看电视玩游戏。哪怕孩子们在运动的时候, 也被家长紧紧盯着,要么在学校、要么在家里、要么在车里。意在表明此段介绍了美国孩子是怎么 被抚养长大的现实。故选 A 项。 35. How is the text mainly developed? A. By telling an interesting story. B. By using examples to explain. C. By pointing out similarities and differences. D. By showing the effect and then explaining the causes. 【答案】B 【解析】逻辑结构题。根据第一段“On her first morning in America, last summer, my daughter went out to explore her new neighborhood alone.”和第五段中“Just take the example of the case of 10-year-old Rafi and 6-year-old Dvora Meitiv in 2015, in Silver Spring, Maryland, who were picked up by the police because their parents had dared to allow them to walk home from the park alone.”可知文章通过举了“女儿独自冒 险去交朋友”和“Rafi 与 Dvora Meitiv 在外面玩被警察发现,父母因为敢让孩子独自出门而深感愧疚” 等例子展开行文。故选 B 项。 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Even if you wake up every day with a perfect smile on your face, it can easily be ruined by the difficult people you meet at your workplace. You can’t avoid them because they are already part of your everyday life. They make your day stressful which gives you a terrible feeling to leave the work immediately. 36 I will share a few effective strategies which will help you to deal with these difficult people. Don’t take it personally. Difficult people see others’ opinion as conflicting (冲突) to their belief. Their behavior is already a habit to them so if you take it personally, they may even plan to make your life more terrible. Remember the problem is not only with you. 37 Listen to what they say. Sometimes what difficult people want is someone’s attention and love. There are also difficult people who don’t even speak but will just throw you with sullen (愠怒的) looks to make you feel uneasy. 38 The thought of you standing there and waiting for a response will make them feel uncomfortable and they will just decide to speak up. If they do, listen carefully and analyze it. Don’t get discouraged. I have already told you that it would be really difficult for you to change their behavior but never give up. It should be you affecting them and not them affecting you. 39 They would not interfere (干扰) with you again. If they realize that, you can already enjoy your stay in the office or in the school. 40 Instead of dealing with their pessimistic attitude every day, try to look at what advantages these people have. That way, they will start to like and appreciate you. Also, they won’t give you cold stares any more. A. See what’s good in these people. B. Choose topics that you both like. C. Difficult people are sometimes suffering from low self-esteem (自尊). D. If this happens, ask them and wait for a minute until he or she speaks. E. What’s worse is that they can even make your enjoyable day unhealthy. F. There must be many people who feel annoyed with their unpleasant behavior. G. Once they feel that you are different and they can’t beat you, they’ll learn to become distant. 36.【答案】E 【解析】根据上一句 They make your day stressful which gives you a terrible feeling to leave the work immediately. 他们让你的一天充满压力,让你有一种要立即离开工作的可怕感觉。可知,此处内容 也与上句的 They(也就是 the difficult people you meet at your workplace)带来的影响有关,选项 E“更 糟糕的是,他们甚至会让你愉快的一天变得不健康。”符合题意。故选 E 项。 37.【答案】F 【解析】根据上一句 Remember the problem is not only with you. 记住,不只是你一个人的问题。可 语篇解读:这是一篇应用文。文章介绍了四个有效的策略来帮助你对付这些工作中难对付 的人:别往心里去、听听他们说什么、不要气馁、看看这些人的优点。知此处内容与他人有关,F 选项“一定有许多人对他们不愉快的行为感到烦恼。”符合题意。故选 F 项。 38.【答案】D 【解析】根据上一句 There are also difficult people who don’t even speak but will just throw you with sullen ( 愠怒的) looks to make you feel uneasy. 也有难缠的人,他们甚至不说话,只是用阴沉的表情 看着你,让你感到不自在。下一句 The thought of you standing there and waiting for a response will make them feel uncomfortable and they will just decide to speak up.一想到你站在那里等待回应,他们就 会感到不舒服,他们就会决定说出来。可知,此处内容与那些用阴沉表情看着你但是不说话的人有 关,该怎么做呢?选项 D“如果发生这种情况,询问他们并等待一分钟,直到他或她开口。”符合题 意。故选 D 项。 39.【答案】G 【解析】根据下一句 They would not interfere with you again. 他们不会再干涉你了。可知此处内容与 他们不会继续攻击你有关,选项 G“一旦他们觉得你与众不同,他们无法打败你,他们就会学着疏远 你。”符合题意。故选 G 项。 40.【答案】A 【解析】根据下一句 Instead of dealing with their pessimistic attitude every day, try to look at what advantages these people have. 与其每天处理他们的悲观态度,不如试着看看这些人有什么优势。可知, 此处是本段小标题,内容应该与看看这些人有什么优点有关,选项 A“看看这些人的优点。”符合题 意。故选 A 项。 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分 45 分) 第一节 完形填空(共 20 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳 选项。 Once upon a time there were two brothers who lived near each other.
