❶It’s hoped that...的用法
It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars.人们有望能够在火星上重新开始,建设一个更好的世界。(P52)
It is hoped that...表示“人们希望……”,指说话者希望如此。例如:
It is hoped that we can finish the project before this weekend.我们有望在本周末前完成此项目。
常见的“It is+过去分词+that”句型
It is said that...据说……
It is reported that...据报道……
It is believed that...大家相信……
It is well known that...众所周知……
It is thought that...大家认为……
It is suggested that...据建议……
❷large numbers of的用法
At present,our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars—it would take months.目前,我们的宇宙飞船太慢了,无法运送大批的乘客去火星——因为要花几个月的时间。(P52)
large numbers of 意为“大量的”,也可以说 a larger number of,只可修饰可数名词。
量词与名词的搭配
(1)只能修饰可数名词的量词:a large/great/good number of,a good/great many,dozens of,scores of,quite a few等。
(2)只能修饰不可数名词的量词:a great deal of,a large amount of,quite a little,a large sum of等。
(3)既可修饰可数名词,也可修饰不可数名词的量词:plenty of,a lot of,lots of,a large quantity of,a good supply of等。
❸fast的用法
However,the spacecraft would travel so fast that the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable.然而,宇宙飞船会飞得如此之快,以至于去火星的旅程可能会相当不舒服。(P52)
辨析fast,quick和rapid
1.表示人的动作的迅速,三者都可用,有时可换用。例如:

a fast/rapid/quick worker 一个做事手脚快的工人
2.fast 表示“快”,侧重指速度方面。例如:
She ran as fast as she could.她能跑多快就跑多快。
注意:询问速度或表示钟表走得快等,通常用 fast。例如:
My watch is 5 minutes fast.我的表快了5 分钟。
3.quick 通常表示某一动作来得突然或时间持续很短,有时还含有匆忙之意(但通常不指动作的频率)。例如:
He gave her a quick kiss.他突然吻了她一下。
注意:催人快做或快走等,通常用 quick。例如:
Be quick!快点!
4.rapid 比另外两个词要稍正式些,通常指突然或急速(且连续不断)的动作。例如:
He asked questions in rapid succession.他连珠炮似地发问。
注意:rapid 还可指一种有益的高速度,而fast 和 quick 有时指无益的急速。例如:
He made rapid progress in English.他在英语方面取得了很快的进步。
❹agreement的用法
Are scientists in agreement that living on Mars would be possible for humans in the future?科学家们赞同人类将来有可能在火星上生活吗?(P57)
1.agreement为名词,意为“协议,同意”。例如:
This is an agreement between you and me.这是你我之间的协议。
2.常用的固定搭配:
by agreement 约好
come to/arrive at/reach/make an agreement 达成协议;取得一致意见
in agreement (with)同意,(和……)一致
3.agreement的动词形式是agree。常见的固定搭配:
agree on sth 同意某事
agree with sb 同意某人
