B One winter, my cousin and I were playing toy blocks in the yard. My mom was out for 3 shopping to get groceries and my dad was asleep upstairs in his room. Suddenly, it started to snow. First it was just a little. But then it started to pour heavily. Then, we put the finishing touches to our blocks and headed back inside. Right when I opened the sliding glass door, my cousin fell down on the slippery wooden stairs. I let go of the door, my worst mistake, you see. The door locks automatically but I had put a rock, right next to the door so it wouldn’t close. But while I was running to my cousin’s aid I’d accidentally kicked the rock. Now, my cousin and I were locked outside. And unfortunately it started to get really windy. It was really freezing with the snow. First we started to call my dad, but he was sleeping soundly. I mean sleep-through-a-tornado-soundly. It was of no use. Then I tried to climb over the fence but it didn’t work because the fence was iced by snow and wind, and the fence is six feet high. So, I climbed up to my tree house and brainstormed some ideas on ways to get out. At one point, I was seriously considering jumping out of the tree house and use the trampoline(蹦床)to jump over the fence. So, we got to work. First, I took out the trampoline. Then I started to jump. First try—I almost cracked my head. Second try—this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he thickened out. Third try—I jumped and missed but at the last second, my hand caught the fence, and with a lot of pushing I finally climbed over the fence and luckily, I fell on a big snow drift. Finally, my mom came back. Then I got inside and unlocked the door for my cousin to get in. Then we shared this story with my mom and dad. 25.When the author wanted to jump out, the main problem was that . A. the fence was icy B. the fence was slippery and high C. the trampoline couldn’t bear the weight D. the trampoline was too small 26.The attitude of the author’s cousin towards jumping on trampoline seems . A. passive B. positive C. indifferent D. objective 27.The underlined words “thickened out” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean . A. fell down B. cried out C. jumped up D. backed out 28.Which would be the best title of the text? A. Climbing Fence in the Snow B. An Adventure in Yard C. Friendship Produces Pleasure D. We Are Independent 4 C When I was a kid, the Internet was a different place. We had dial-up Internet via AOL and my after-school hobby was the chat rooms. My favorite spot was Teen Friends 1. All my friends from school were there each night. We joked, laughed and gossiped. Today, social media have become far more advanced than before. Where we only had our handful of friends, kids today can have 5,000 Facebook friends. Social media can be a fun and positive experience for kids. As parents, we want to be able to respect our children’s privacy. We can warn our children of the dangers on the Internet, but we cannot protect them from everything. We can only hope our children would come to us if they ever have a concern, so it is important to develop close relationships with our children. When my child changed schools, it seemed she was accustomed to her classes. A few weeks later, however, she was in low spirits. After a talk, I learned she was being bullied online by a group of older girls from school. The school had strict policies regarding online bullying, but my daughter didn’t want to cause any trouble. Fortunately, I was an experienced person who has grown up on AOL. We were able to handle the situation correctly. The older girls respected my daughter’s Internet skill, and they soon became friends. Later, my daughter was able to help me with my own social media problem. I was in the market for a new job and filled out applications online. It seems most employers wanted to know my Facebook information. My daughter informed me that many employers now review our social media pages as a means to get to know us better. With her help I was able to set up a separate Facebook account only intended for employers. Public perception of social media is now widely accepted. Even online relationships, once considered socially questionable, are now common. But with a few cautious and healthy dialogues with our children, we can keep them safe online. And they can help us adapt to dial-up social media world as well! 29.We can learn from the passage that Teen Friends 1 is . A. a program the author liked watching online in the past B. a chat room where the author chatted with her friends C. a person with whom the author liked to chat with most D. a place where the author will never forget in the future 30.Why does the author say a close relationship with children is important? A. They will more willingly seek advice from their parents. B. They will know how helpful and kind their parents are. 5 C. They will protect their parents from dangers online. D. They will be careful when making friends online. 31.Why does the author mention her daughter’s experience in Paragraph 3? A. To prove social media are really dangerous to children. B. To show the author is an expert in solving problems online. C. To tell us she can use what she has experienced to help others. D. To show a good relationship with children can help solve problems. 32.How did the author’s daughter help her with her problem? A. By filling out applications online. B. By preventing employers reviewing her page. C. By setting up another Facebook account. D. By getting more employers to know the author. D For humans, climbing Mount Qomolangma is seen as a great impressive achievement. People make movies, write books, and have essentially developed a whole industry surrounding the challenge that is this mountain. While we consider climbing the mountain as an athletic achievement, there is one animal, the bar-headed goose, does not think so. As the species migrates(迁徙)from Central Asia to Southeast Asia every autumn, it must cross over the Himalayan range. These mountains force the bar-headed goose to fly at around 30,000 feet above sea level, which is the highest altitude for migratory birds. These geese have special adaptions that allow them to survive at the altitude. For example, a special protein (蛋白质)in blood cells that transports oxygen throughout the body allows their blood cells to combine with oxygen. Their circulatory system provides a constant supply of fresh, oxygenated blood to their wing muscles(肌肉). They have much larger lungs than other birds, which give them the ability to take in more air. Scientists initially believe that the geese flow at an extremely high altitude for the full length of their migration. But later the data suggests that the birds use a much more effective way of travel. Instead of remaining at an extremely high altitude to fly over the mountain range, the geese hug the mountains, flying up and down depending on the obstacles (障碍物)in their way. This works better for them because they don’t have to use all their energy flying in an area with low oxygen; they can spend time flying at lower altitudes. The geese also make use of nature to make this work easier. To fly down, they simply 6 allow gravity to pull them. To fly back up, they make use of orographic(地形的)lift, which happens when flowing air meets an obstacle, such as a mountain. The mountain forces the air up, creating an upward draft. The birds take advantage of this draft, expending less of their own energy to fly up the mountain. The way these birds have adapted to flying across the Asian continent during their annual migration is certainly an amazing way to see nature at work. 33. What does the underlined part “this work” in Paragraph 5 most probably refer to? A. To fly down. B. To fly back up. C. To fly over the mountain. D. To fly at lower altitudes. 34. How do the geese behave while crossing over the Himalayan range? A. By flowing at an extremely high altitude all the way. B. By taking advantage of the orographic lift. C. By smoothing the obstacles in their way. D. By forcing the air up, creating an upward draft. 35. What’s the main idea of this passage? A. The geese’s amazing migration. B. The highest flying record of geese. C. The flying mystery of geese. D. Mount Qomolangma and its geese. 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Are you new to experiencing relationships?
