My dad was a used car salesman. Every Thursday night, he would head off to Shreveport, LA for an auction (拍卖会). Most of the time, I drove a car over there for him so he could sell it at the auction. One day I was riding with my dad when he noticed a hitch-hiker(搭便车的人) with a backpack. Without hesitation, he pulled the car over and offered him a ride. Dad asked him his name, and proceeded to talk to him about all sorts of things. Dad asked him where he was going. The hitch-hiker told him that he was heading for the west. I can’t recall why but he told Dad a lot of things that had occurred to him and that persuaded him to make that decision. He talked about the tragic events that occurred to him several years before. He was in low spirits, but I could see that the hitch-hiker’s attitude was changing as someone was really listening to him. We drove 45 minutes before the hitch-hiker got off. We pulled over and Dad told him to keep his head up and things would start looking up for him soon. He reached into his pocket and handed the hitch-hiker a twenty-dollar bill. The guy smiled. He nearly lit up right there on the cold, dark highway. We drove on and my dad did not say a single thing. I was still completely amazed by what I had just witnessed. I was always told by everyone never to pick up a hitch -hiker and yet my dad did it every single time he saw one. While reflecting upon that story I came to understand that just one single kind act could change someone’s life, and I am sure that my father’s deed made that poor man’s day. 1. A B Managing a popular tourist attraction can be kind of like throwing a party — everyone wants to come and have fun, but nobody wants to help clean up when it's over. But the Faroe Islands have come up with a creative 3 way to take care of their home and welcome visitors at the same time. An official notice on the islands' national tourism website reads "closed for maintenance (维护), open for voluntourism.”Following a successful plan this year, the country has made the decision to "close” its major tourism sights and attractions during the weekend of April 16-17, 2020. Hotels will be open, and flights will continue. That weekend, people all over the Faroe Islands will be working on environmental protection projects. However, people who are just dying to visit the Faroe Islands during that weekend can sign on to help with the housekeeping. The islands are looking for 100 volunteers to come to the country to help with the caretaking efforts. There were thousands of applications for the 2019 plan, so would-be islanders better apply fast. "For us, tourism is not all about numbers, " Director at Visit Faroe Islands told CNN Travel earlier this year." We welcome visitors to the islands each year, but we also have a responsibility to our community and to our beautiful environment, and our aim is to protect the islands, ensuring responsible growth." The first group of voluntourists included travelers from Mexico, Israel, Australia, China and the United States. The director said that because of the surprising popularity of the volunteering weekend in 2019, the Faroes will host the event yearly. According to the Faroes' tourism authority, visits to the country have increased by 10% over the past few years. 6. Who can visit the Faroe Islands on April 16-17, 2020? A. Any tourists. B. The Faroe Islands are likely to hold a party yearly. C. The plan has made some difference in recent years. 4 D. Some tourism sights and attractions are closed for all. 9. What's the writer's attitude towards the voluntourism? A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Objective. 10. In which section of a newspaper can you probably find this article? A. Sports. B. Travel. C. Technology. D. History. 【答案】6. B 7. A 8. C 9. D 10. B C The common cold is the world's most widespread illness, which is plagues(疫病) that flesh receives. The most widespread mistake of all is that colds are caused by cold. They are not. They are caused by viruses(病毒) passing on from person to person. You catch a cold by coming into contact, directly or indirectly, with someone who already has one. If cold causes colds, it would be reasonable to expect the Eskimos to suffer from them forever. But they do not. And in isolated Arctic regions explorers have reported being free from colds until coming into contact again with infected people from the outside world by way of packages and mail dropped from airplanes. During the First World War soldiers who spent long periods in the trenches(战壕), cold and wet, showed no increased tendency to catch colds. At the Common Cold Research Unit in England, volunteers took part in Experiments in which they gave themselves to the discomforts of being cold and wet for long stretches of time. After taking hot baths, they put on bathing suits, allowed themselves to be with cold water, and then stood about dripping wet in drafty room. Some wore wet socks all day while others exercised in the rain until close to exhaustion. Not one of the volunteers came down with a cold unless a cold virus was actually dropped in his nose. If, then, cold and wet have nothing to do with catching colds, why are they more frequent in the winter? Despite the most pains—taking research, no one has yet found the answer. One explanation offered by scientists is that people tend to stay together indoors more in cold weather than at other times, and this makes it easier for cold viruses to be passed on. 5 11. How many examples does the writer offer to support his argument? A. 3 B. 4 C. 5 D. 6 12. Arctic explorers may catch colds when ________. A. they are working in the isolated Arctic regions B. they are writing reports in terribly cold weather C. they are free from work in the isolated Arctic regions D. they are coming into touch again with the outside world 13. What happened to the volunteers taking part in the experiments in the Common Cold Research Unit? A. They suffered a lot. B. They never caught colds. C. They often caught colds. D. They became very strong. 14. Which can we learn from the text? A. Colds are not all caused by cold. B. The Eskimos never suffer from colds. C. People suffer from colds just because they like to stay indoors. D. It's uncertain why people are more likely to catch colds in the winter. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. The experiments on the common cold. B. Some treatments for the common cold. C The continued spread of common colds. D. The reason and the way people catch colds. 【答案】11. B 12. D 13. A 14. D 15. Our Spanish summer program allows our students to learn from highly trained, certified teachers and be absorbed in the language and the culture of Costa Rica. Features include: * Intensive(强化的) daily Spanish classes * Extracurricular classes in dance, cooking, music, and handiwork * Outdoor activities including hiking, camping, rafting, and ziplining(高空滑索) * Homestay with a local Costa Rican family * Volunteer work in needy neighborhoods Our Teaching Methods: We are proud to use TPRS---Total Physical Response Storytelling---in our curriculum. This innovative method uses strange and amusing stories to teach new vocabulary, increase fluency, and get students involved by giving them the opportunity to alter the details themselves. Because of the silliness, creativity, and repetition involved, TPRS allows students to learn easily and remember information effortlessly Memorizing vocabulary and listening to lectures on grammar are slow, inefficient ways to learn a new language. The best way to truly learn and commit new material to memory is through conversation. In our Spanish classes, students can expect to speak up to 80% of each class. By speaking in the new language freely and consistently, students can see progress faster because they are using the new grammar and vocabulary that they have learned at the same time. This helps the brain remember the new words and grammar structures for future use, making it much easier to progress. 7 21. What does the program do? A. It offers weekly Spanish classes B. Life is for a limited period only and no one knows how long he/she will live, so why do you waste your precious time in worrying about the things that are beyond your control? Be happy, and enjoy your life unconditionally (无条件 地). You enjoy good days but you also need to learn how to enjoy bad days, even enjoy your pain. In 2016 when I was in Geneva, Switzerland, I suffered a sudden heart attack. My colleagues called an ambulance and I was taken to hospital with much pain in my chest. Before reaching hospital, I was totally exhausted with pain and was going to lose control of my emotions. Then the doctor in the ambulance said, “Don’t worry; you are in safe hands.” His words took away all my pain because I started realizing that it was no time to worry about pain and it’s time to be happy that my life was safe. At that time, I learnt an important lesson that in pain there is a hidden joy and whoever sees the bright side can enjoy pain. My pain turned into a joy which greatly helped me recover more quickly than expected. You not only enjoy success but you also need to learn to enjoy failure. D D Rachel Carson was concerned about what was happenig to the environment. So in her book Silent Sping, she warned that some chemicals were poisoning the air, the water, the earth, and all its creatures. She imagined a time when spring would not bring the rebirth of flowers, trees, and the songs of birds. The book became a bestseller, and Ms. Carson was in great demand as a speaker. People lisened to her because what she said made 11 sense, and because she was a scientist who knew her facts. Rachel Carson was primarily interested in the world of sea and shore, so she became a marine biologst for the government. She studied and recorded facts about the sea' s plant and animal life, their special characteristics, and the nature of their environments. In 1951, she wrote The Sea Around Us, which brought her honors, fame, and respect around the world. Ms. Carson then devoted herself full-time to research and writing. One thing much on her mind was the effect of modern technology on the natural environment. One day, a distressed friend wrote her to say that a plane spraying(喷洒) DDT had flown over her yard, and the next day several birds lay dead. Carson decided to act. For four years she studied the use of pesticides(杀虫剂) in the United States, and then she wrote Silent Spring. In her book Ms. Carson said that these pesticides would harm much more than insects. She explained that these poisons would pollute the environment. “Even if their effects are not immediately observable, they remain for years in the water and the soil, and they become part of the food eaten by animals and humans. Besides, after a time, insects develop immunity to pesticides,” she said. Recent studies have shown that pesticides can affect human brainwave activity and cause loss of memory and inability to concentrate. We should still remember Rachel Carson’s words, “I think we are challenged as we have never been challenged before to prove our mastery, not of nature, but of ourselves.” 32. Silent Spring is a book that__________ A. aims to raise people’s environmental awareness B. stresses the importance of the cycle of nature C. describes the author' s childhood experiences D. asks people to enjoy the beauty of spring 33. A 33. D 34. B 35. C 福建省永安市第三中学 2019-2020 学年高一下学期期中考试英语试题 第二部分 阅读理解(共 2 节,满分 32 分) 第一节(共 11 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 22 分) A Have you ever thought of taking a train and having an adventure (奇遇)? Riding the train can be a real adventure. That is how I feel every time I take Amtrak. I often take a four-hour trip to visit my children. Every time I take this trip I never know what will happen. Last week when I was on the train and over an hour into the train ride, there was a man sitting by himself in the back of the train carrying on a mobile phone conversation—in another language. It was loud and disturbed most of the people on the train. I think it was annoying. Fortunately I sat next to a wonderful old lady who was taking a two-day trip by train. She said her two daughters were distraught at the thought of her driving for three days to reach her home, although she had no 13 trouble driving. The train ride was the only choice for her. She loved to look out of the window and watch the world go by on the train. She was fun to talk to and asked me when my children started being parents. That is a very good question. Both of us are old and have children. She asked that same question from time to time. There are always many people on the train from all walks of life, different countries, and many languages. Riding the train is a great way to increase your knowledge and take in all kinds of cultures. If you get hungry, you can buy food in the food car at any time. If you need to use the restroom there is always one available. It sure beats driving the car, which has to stop for food and restrooms. And it is better than taking the bus. 21. According to the passage, the purpose of the author's train ride was ________. A. to do business B. to visit places of interest C. to see her children D. to see her old friends 22. Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the word "distraught" in Paragraph 3? A. Worried. B. Satisfied. C. Disappointed. D. Pleased. 23. Which of the following is TRUE about the old lady sitting next to the author? A. She is too old to drive now. B. She does not like to take trains. C. Her daughters live far away from her home. D. Although she is old, she has a good memory. B If Confucius were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28 birthday with a big cake, there would be a lot of candles. He'd need a fan or a strong wind to help him put them out. While many people in China will remember Confucius on his special day, few people in the United States will give him a passing thought. It's nothing personal. Most Americans don't even remember the birthdays of their own national heroes. But this doesn't mean that Americans don't care about Confucius. In many ways he has become a bridge that foreigners must cross if they want to reach a deeper understanding of China. In the past two decades, the Chinese studies programs have gained huge popularity in Western universities. More recently, the Chinese government has set up Confucius Institutes in more than 80 countries. These schools 14 teach both Chinese language and culture. The main courses of Chinese culture usually included Chinese art, history and philosophy. Some social scientists suggest that Westerners should take advantage of the old Chinese wisdom to make up for the drawbacks of Westerners philosophy. Students in the United States, at the same time, are racing to learn Chinese. So they will be ready for life in a world where China is an equal power with the United States. Businessmen who hope to make money in China are reading books about Confucius to understand their Chinese customers. So the old thinker's ideas are still alive and well. Today China attracts the West more than ever, and it will need more teachers to introduce Confucius and Chinese culture to the West. As for the old thinker, he will not soon be forgotten by people in the West, even if his birthday is. 24. The first paragraph is mainly intended to _________. A. provide some key facts about Confucius B. prove the popularity of modern birthday celebrations C. attract the readers' interest in the subject D. show great respect for the old thinker 25. The reason why few Americans remember Confucius on his birthday is probably that ______. A. they don't care about Confucius at all. B. he has become a bridge between foreigners and China. C. they don't pay much attention to the birthdays of famous people. D. they consider their own national heroes more important. 26. We can learn from Paragraph 4 that American students ________. A. were not interested in Chinese studies before B. take an active part in Chinese competitions C. have a great interest in studying Chinese D. hope to make money in China 27. What is the best title for the passage? A. Forgotten Wisdom in America B. Huge Fans of the Chinese Language C. Chinese Culture for Westerners D. Old Thinker with a Big Future 15 C What should you think about when trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. A knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs. Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metalwork or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills. If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job. Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weakness than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work. 28. We can infer from the first paragraph that ________. A. learning better at school shows power in your job B. we should think about how to find our career C. learning each subject well is an ability in many jobs D. the better you are at school subjects, the more helpful they are in your career 29. From the passage we learn that if a student’s school performance is not good, he will _____. A. have no hope in his future work B. regret not having worked harder at school 16 C. be hopeful to find a suitable job D. have an opportunity of a new beginning in his future work 30. All the subjects may have direct value for job hunting except _________. A. mathematics B. history C. English D. technical drawing 31. The passage mainly discusses _______ ____. A. The relationship between school performance and career B. how to get a job C. How to show strengths in your work D. working experience and knowledge at school 21-23 CAC 24-27 CCCD 28-31 DDBA 福建省 2019-2020 学年高一下学期期中考试英语试题 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分 40 分) 第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 30 分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出最佳选项。 A ◆ Welwitschia mirabilis Title: the world’s most resistant plant It’s not pretty to look at, but welwitschia mirabilis is unique. It consists of only two leaves and a strong stem with roots. Two leaves continue to grow and the stem(茎) thickens and can grow to be almost 2 meters high and 8 meters wide. Its lifespan is 400 to 1,500 years. It can survive up to five years with no rain. The plant is said to be very tasty either raw or baked in hot ashes. ◆ Dionaea muscipula Title: the Venus Fly Trap Dionaea muscipula is the most famous carnivorous(肉食性的) plant due to the active and efficient nature of its unique trap. It may be famous, but it’s also threatened. It produces a short leaf that forms two sides of a trap. Each side contains some sensitive hairs. When it is touched two to three times, the trap will shut in less than a 17 second, fast enough to catch flies and other insects. The leaf, once closed, produces some enzymes(酶) that slowly dissolve the insects and supply the plant with food. ◆ Rafflesia arnoldii Title: the world’s largest flower Rafflesia arnoldii, the largest flower in the world, is an exotic and rare plant. The flower is 3 feet across and weighs 15-24 pounds. However, you wouldn’t want to grow it in your garden. In a rainforest-type environment, it gives off a most unpleasant smell, which is somewhat like rotten meat. This is why it is often called the Corpse Plant by some natives of Indonesia where it comes. Its flowers only last for three days to a week. ◆ Euphorbia obese Title: the Baseball Plant Euphorbia obese is known as the Baseball Plant. Over-harvesting by plant collectors for its interesting and curious appearance has severely reduced the wild population. However, it has become very common now. By growing euphorbia obese in large numbers, many gardens have been working to ensure that the plants being traded and sold among plant collectors are not wild plants. 21. According to the passage, rafflesia arnoldii __________. A. shuts its trap two or three times in one second. B. gives off a special smell to attract flies and insects C. smells bad in a hot and wet environment 18 D. has a big flower, a strong stem and two leaves 23. Plant collectors like euphorbia obese because __________. A. it looks strange B. it tastes delicious C. it can be planted in the garden D. it is worth a big fortune B With bushfires continuing to swallow different parts of Australia, a local zoo in New South Wales - the state which is the easiest to catch fire - has hit the headlines with a heartwarming story. Right in the line of a bushfire, the keepers of Mogo Wildlife Park managed to protect all 200 animals from harm after they received evacuation(疏散,撤离) orders, according to reports. Netizens were quick to react on social media and praised the bravery of the zoo keeper and staffs, as they stayed and managed to protect animals from uncontrolled fires and even sheltered some at their own house. The 40-year-old zoo keeper, Chad Staples, described the situation as the worst catastrophe, which felt like Armageddon (末日审判) here. Luckily, his team had made a precise plan ahead of time by moving everything flammable from the area and the larger animals to safe places. What’s remarkable is that as the smaller ones needed extra shelter, Staples decided to take them to his own house. “Right now in my house there are animals of all descriptions in all the different rooms. They are safe and protected … not a single animal lost,” he said. BBC news also mentioned that “there’s a tiger to the back of the house.” Some media outlets highlighted the “heroic job” in their headlines. Online users also reacted with thumbs-up and were glad to see all the staff and animals coming through the horrific fire. 19 Located in the southern coast of New South Wales, Mogo Wildlife Park houses Australia’s largest collection of primates, also including different and unique animals such as zebras, giraffes, rhinos and red pandas. 24. C Google's new camera, called Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子) , but it's not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own. This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera, with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone. Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. "Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it'll try to get nice photos 20 of those faces," said Juston Payne, the device's product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved "training it to know what happiness looks like". The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot—like when a child's hand is over the lens(镜头), or if it is tossed in a dark purse. The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing. Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet. "This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced" Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we're likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets. 28. What is the most outstanding feature of Clips? A. It is because they do not realize this, or because they are not willing to do the work, that most people do not listen well. Listening well also requires total concentration upon someone else. An essential part of listening well is the rule known as ‘bracketing’. Bracketing includes the temporary giving up or setting aside of your own prejudices and desires, to experience as far as possible someone else’s world from the inside, stepping into his or her shoes. Moreover, since listening well involves bracketing, it also involves a temporary acceptance of the other person. Sensing this acceptance, the speaker will seem quite willing to open up the inner part of his or her mind to the listener. True communication is under way and the energy required for listening well is so great that it can be accomplished only by the will to extend oneself for mutual growth. Most of the time we lack this energy. Even though we may feel in our business dealings or social relationships that we are listening well, what we are usually doing is listening selectively. Often we have a prepared list in mind and wonder, as we listen, how we can achieve certain desired results to get the conversation over as quickly as possible or redirected in ways more satisfactory to us. Many of us are far more interested in talking than in listening, or we simply refuse to listen to what we don’t want to hear. It wasn’t until toward the end of my doctor career that I have found the knowledge that one is being truly listened to is frequently therapeutic (有疗效的). In about a quarter of the patients I saw, surprising improvement was shown during the first few months of psychotherapy (心理疗法), before any of the roots of problems had been uncovered or explained. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, but chief among them, I believe, was the patient’s sense that he or she was being truly listened to, often for the first time in years, and for some, perhaps for the first time ever. 32.What is mainly discussed in Paragraph 2? If you’re worried about getting a seat, park your picnic at the El Dorado Beaches before 9:45 p.m. Or you can take the road less traveled and hike to the top of Mount Tallac for an unforgettable and best view of the display. Just remember you’ll have to hike down, so bring a headlight. 23 DELAWARE: REHOBOTH BEACH Launched from the beach south of Rehoboth Avenue, these fireworks are visible up and down the boardwalk and beach. So jump on the Jolly Trolley(观光车) early and spend your whole day at the beach. There’s even live music after the fireworks. Note: This year’s fireworks display is scheduled for July 1, 2018. FLORIDA: SERTOMA’S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS (PENSACOLA BAY) The Gulf Coast knows how to celebrate the Fourth of July. With vendors, arts and crafts, kid-friendly activities and live entertainment, this fun-filled day in Old Seville culminates(达到高潮) with the largest fireworks display in the area. Unfortunately the pony rides and face painting are only for the kids, though. GEORGIA: DAHLONEGA’S 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION Pack up your lawn chairs, blankets and coolers and head about an hour outside of Atlanta to the University of North Georgia. It’s even pet friendly — just make sure your dog can take the noise. And if you get to town early enough (11 a.m.), there’s a Fourth of July parade that aims to put all other Fourth of July parades to shame. 21. Plants don't feel pain the same way animals and people do, says Anke Steppuhn. She is a scientist at the Free University of Berlin in Germany. "What we define as pain usually 24 has to do with a nervous system," Steppuhn explains. When you put your hand too close to a hot stove, nerve cells send a signal to your brain. Your brain decodes (解码) that signal as pain. This causes you to pull your hand away before any serious damage is done. Plants don't have nerves or brains, so they can't feel pain like we do. "But plants do recognize when something is hurting them," Steppuhn says. Because they are rooted to the ground, they can't escape a dangerous situation. So they need other ways of fighting back. The biggest threat to a plant's life is getting eaten. Some plants grow sharp little hairs. Other plants produce bad-tasting or even harmful chemicals. These force an attacker to abandon its meal. A plant called bittersweet nightshade does something even smarter, Steppuhn found. When a slug (蛞蝓) chews holes in a nightshade's leaf, liquid begins dropping around the wound. It is almost as if the plant were bleeding. The liquid is sugary nectar (花 蜜), and it happens to be a favorite food of ants. In their effort to collect the nectar, the ants gather all over the injured plants. They will attack anything that stands in their way. That includes the slug that damaged the plant in the first place. It's a very clever trick. Whenever a slug attacks a plant, the plant calls an army of ants to kill the slug. Nectar isn't the only way plants attract bodyguards. They also release certain chemicals into the air when they are being eaten. People usually can't find these smells. But wasps (黄蜂) can. When a wasp notices this cry for help, it races to the scene of the crime. If it finds the right kind of insect chewing down on the plant, the wasp will interrupt the attacker's meal. It will do this by laying eggs inside the insect's body. 24. Why do plants feel pain differently from us? A. They don't know whether they're hurt. B. They face different kinds of danger. C. They don't have nervous systems. D. They have slow response to pain. 25. What does the underlined word "They" in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Ants. B. Slugs. C. Plants. D. Wasps. 26. What is the text mainly about? A. How plants feel pain. B. How plants attract insects. C. How plants defend themselves. D. How plants attack small animals. C 25 Other people may have their own ideas about our lives. We can value their advice, but we don't have to take it to heart. Our parents have dreams for us. They want us to do well in school and to do whatever is necessary to reach our highest potential (潜力). Later in life, friends may try to set us up with their ideas of the perfect partner or the perfect job. People close to us may have ideas about how we should live our lives, ideas that usually come from love and the desire for us to be happy. Other times, they come from a place of need within them whether it is a parent who wants us to live out his or her dreams or a friend who wants us to play a good role. Whatever the case, we can appreciate and consider those people's advice, but ultimately we must follow our own guidance. There may come a time when all the suggestions can become overbearing (专横的). We may feel that the people we love don't agree on our judgment, which can hurt our feelings. It can affect the choices we make for our lives by making us doubt ourselves before we've had a chance to decide what we want. We can tell our loved ones how much we appreciate their thoughts and ideas, but that we need to live our own lives and make our own decisions. We can explain that they need to let us learn from our own experiences. When they see that we are happy with our lives and the path we are taking to reach our goals, they can make sure that all we need them to do is to share in our joy. 27. People close to us often tell us ideas to show their ______ . A. power B. concern C. Potential D. happiness 28. When a friend's advice is overbearing, we may feel ______ . A. determined B. frightened C. doubtful D. grateful 29. What should we do if we don't accept our friends' advice? ______ A. Tell them our choices directly. B. Let them experience our ways of life. C. Share our own experiences with them. D. Let them know we should make our own decisions. 30. What is the best title for the text? ______ A. Appreciating Suggestions B. Avoiding Making Suggestions C. Accepting Suggestions D. Offering Suggestions 26 21-23:BCA 24-26 :CAC 27-30:BCDA
