Most of us know the story Yu Gong Moves a Mountain.
The story tells us as long as we put our hearts(心) into it, we can do
anything well. In India, there is another “Yu Gong”.
Saja Pahad is a small village in India. It had a big problem in
the past. There wasn’t enough water for people to use for many years. There were only two
wells(井) for people to drink and feed their cows. People in the village didn’t know what to do. A
boy decided to change something. The boy is Shyam Lal. He was only 15 years old then.
Shyam found a place next to a forest and decided to dig(挖) a pond(池塘) to collect rainwater.
He shared his idea with the villagers, but they thought it was crazy. So the boy started digging it
alone and he kept on digging for the next 27 years.
At first, Shyam dug a small hole, and now he has dug a huge pond full of water. “No one
helped me with my work,” Shyam told a newspaper proudly(自豪地). “But it’s my dream to
give enough water to all the people in the village. I’m happy I’ve made it.” Now people in the
village see him as a hero.
