7. Teaching Steps 具体步骤
Step One: Leading-in (Presentation)【设置情景,关注意义】 (2min)
Design a situation. Li Hua is keen on journalism and he writes a letter to ask Zhou Yang for advice on how to be
a journalist. Zhou Yang replied to him with the letter below.
Dear Li Hua,
…
Though it seems admirable, it is still unusual for a new journalist to go out on a story immediately.
That’s why newcomers will work as a/an assistant to an experienced journalist.
Not until they are more experienced can they cover stories or submit articles. Then, not only are
they good at photography, but they also have a good nose for the scoop. Never do they fail to
acquire all the information needed. So careful and sharp are they that they can judge whether you are
telling the truth. Finally, keep in mind the dos and don’ts of your boss and colleagues. Only in this way
will you update your skills soon.
…
Li Hua’s question: What are necessary skills to be a journalist?
Not only are they good at photography, but they also have a good nose for the scoop.
Step Two: Observation【观察思考,聚焦形式】(5min)
Leading-in: Presentation
Observation Extension
Practice: Polish + Making sentences
Production: Writing
2
1. Ask learners to rewrite the sentences in a normal order and compare these two sentences.
They are not only good at photography, but they also have a good nose for the scoop.
2. Ask the students two relative questions and answer them after watching the video clip.
What is the difference of the two sentences? What kind of grammatical phenomenon is it?
3. Summary: Partial Inversion
Sentence pattern: not only+be/情态助动词+主语+实义动词
Step Three: Extension【拓展练习,尝试运用】(6min)
1. Work individually. Help Li Hua find out all the inverted sentences in the passage and try rewriting them in the
normal order. Try to work out its pattern.
2. Lead learners to conclude the function of inversion from the examples above.
Step Four: Practice--Polish 【学以致用,夯实巩固】(8min)
1. Continue the story of Li Hua and help students use sentence patterns in a real context.
To realize his dream, Li Hua decides to join the News Agency. Li Hua managed to take part in a writing test
designed by the news agency. He is required to polish the news report with appropriate sentence patterns for
emphasis.
2. All learners find out all sentences that need to be polished with inversion.
3. Individual work: Change them into inverted ones.
Oh No, not again!
People from all over of the world sat silently in the Shooting Hall. They were expecting a hero to
regain his honor.
Here came Emmons, the Athens' loser.
He fired. The target was right this time.
However, the people stood up with a scream.
People could hardly believe their eyes.
He only got 4.4 and fell to the fourth.
Emmons never expected it. He froze in no time.
This unlucky guy, Matthew Emmons just needed a 6.6 to be crowned in the men's 50-meter rifle
three positions at the Beijing Olympic Games. He was leading the moment ago. He didn’t lose until the
last shot.
But he made a 4.4.
Gone was the gold. So was the silver. Even the bronze…
He couldn't accept it. Nor could his wife. He was so depressed that he came up to his wife. She did
nothing but hug him deeply.
Fortunately, he missed the gold, but not love.
4. Lead learners to add two more inversion patterns from the sentences So was the silver. Nor could his wife.
Caution learners to focus on the sentences Here came Emmons, the Athens' loser. Gone was the gold. Help
them summarize the pattern of full inversion.
Step Five Make Inverted sentences about Amazing China 【核心素养,活动培养】(8min)
Group Discussion

友谊的力量)
If it hadn’t been for your help, I couldn’t have joined the news agency. Thank you again for your
timely help. Best wishes.

Li Hua
2. Peer Feedback
Ask learners to swap their handouts with their deskmates. Comment on the performance of their deskmates. The
teacher goes around to collect some representative students’ work, snap them and show them on the electronic
whiteboard with the aid of Seewo. Ask one of the students to help appraise their peer performance and correct
mistakes if necessary.
Step Six Summary (1min)
The teacher leads learners to review the main patterns of partial inversion learned this period.
