“New Trends in Entertainment Technology” Teaching Objectives By the end of the class, students are expected to 1. have a general idea of the changes in entertainment technology. 2. outline the objects and changes in entertainment technology introduced in the text; 3. learn the words and phrases that are commonly used in describing digital gadgets for entertainment (for example, digital, high-quality, be introduced, etc.); 4. use the information and expressions learnt in the class to introduce the latest trend in entertainment technology such as iPhone; 5. reflect on the changes in digital technology for entertainment as well as their influences on people’s life. Teaching Plan Sessions Sequences Teacher’s Activities Students’Activities Purposes I. Lead-in Topic introduction Prepare the students with the main theme of this lesson. Ask the students to brainstorm about different kinds of entertainment they know of. Think about popular forms of entertainment and the technology being used. Helping the students to classify different kinds of entertainment, and thus, different fields to which digital devices are applied. Show the students video clips of both old and new films. Ask the students to share their impression on the changes in visual effects that technology enables. Watch the collections of visual effects in films and reflect on the progress that technology brings to filming. Helping the students to build connection between technology and entertainment. Leading them to think about the changes and progression of entertainment technology. II. Text & Subjects Exploration Text Skimming Ask the students to skim through the text to look for changes in entertainment technology. Mark out key words and phrases. Skim through the text and note the changes in entertainment technology that the text introduces. Underline the key words and phrases for later use. a. Exercising speed reading. b. Getting the students ready for text reviewing and subjects exploration. Text Review Ask the students to summarize the objects and their use mentioned in each paragraph in simple words. Grab out key information about the objects described in each paragraph and the corresponding usage. Tell in their own words. Helping the students to gather the key information and outline them according to the passage. Subjects review & exploration Ask the students to elaborate on the features or the arrangement of the devices mentioned in the text, using words and phrases they learnt. Brainstorm about other devices and features. Provide the students with Describe the features and the use of the devices mentioned in the text. Think in particular about the look and the effects. Brainstorm about other devices during the Familiarizing the students with both the content and the vocabulary of the text. Post- reading Practice Discussion & comment Discuss with the students the progress in entertainment technology as well as the possible influences brought onto people. Ask the students to work in groups and comment on both topics. Write down the results of discussion and share group comments with the class. Work in groups to comment briefly on the latest trends in entertainment technology as well as the possible influences on people. The Students can choose to write down their comments before sharing. Helping the students to go over the development in entertainment technology and to explore the effects it brings. Allowing them to produce a brief review or comment. Leaving them with more related issues to think about after the class. V. Homework 1. Write down the review and comment that the students have worked on as groups. 2. Revise the writing and be ready to present in the next class meeting. 3. Students also have the option of using multi-media elements in presenting their opinions in the next class meeting.
