Teaching materials:
The article, which is from Oxford English S2B Unit 4,is an art critic’s view of Van Gogh’s life and work .After the study of the first
period, students have already got a brief picture in the two aspects and they are also asked to do a further study on this artist for the
preparation of the extensive Period II.
Class profile:
Most of the students of Class 1 are top students in senior grade Two. They are quick-minded, active in thinking and are ready to express
themselves on different issues. Besides, thanks to the plentiful research on the related cultural backgrounds through the Internet in
advance, most of them are supposed to involve themselves actively in classroom activities and show a special interest in the follow-up
group discussion.
Teaching methods:
Considering that students are active in thinking, the teacher will try to create as many chances as possible in class to encourage students
to express what they got after class. The teacher will try her utmost to involve students in sharing Van Gogh’s life and work. Task-based
language teaching method will be adopted and special attention will be paid to classroom interaction. Top priority will be given to
developing the students’ abilities to explore and think deeply.
Anticipated problems and solutions:

1. Students may talk about something too trivial and thus leads to
certain time-consuming.
