To help Ss learn about the meaning and pronunciation of some new words. 2. To introduce the topic. While-reading 1. Skim the article and answer two questions. ① How many plants are mentioned? ② What are they? 1. To help Ss know the three plants mentioned. 2. Read para 1, para 2 and find the features of jasmine. Jasmine Features Color: _______ Kinds: _____ produce less flowers _____ produce _______ or ________________ flowers, but need _____________ to grow on Smell: _______ Use: It is not only for ______ but also for _______(make sth beautiful) 3. Tell the difference between bush and vine, learn the new words “bush, vine, frame” with the help of pictures. 2. To help Ss learn different aspects to introduce the features of the golden ball cactus. Post-reading Activity 1. Introduce the plants 1. Teacher shows a model( Yulan magnolia) I am Miss Magnolia. I am beautiful. People love me for my elegance, my color and my looks. I am very tall. More than 12 meters. My flowers are 12 centimeters wide. They are snow white. I am like an elegant lady smiling to everyone. I have a lot of clothes. In spring, I wear a white coat (blossoms). In summer, I wear a green dress (green leaves). In autumn, I change a red or orange one (red or orange leaves). But in winter, I am naked. I wear nothing. I am so cold. Please take good care of me. Keep me warm and moist. Thank you! 2. Students choose one plant, the jasmine or the golden ball cactus, and discuss how to introduce the plant. 3. Some students present themselves while others check whether they provide enough information about the features. 1. To help students retell the text in an interesting way by following the teacher’s model given in the first person. 2. To improve their expressing ability. 3. To check the effect.
