I.Lead-in:
First of all, let’s enjoy a short play.
From this short play, can you guess what this play is based on? The Phantom of
the Opera. (Show a picture)
This is a world famous opera, and this opera was also played in Shanghai.
Do you know where it was played? (Show the picture of Shanghai Grand
Theatre). This is a famous place in Shanghai and also in China. In the theatre,
there is a world famous chandelier. This chandelier has a very beautiful name.
The Blue Danube. Danube is a river in Austria. So you can know the Chinese
meaning. That beautiful chandelier is our topic today.
II.Fast reading.
Open your book at page20. I’ll give you several minutes to read the whole
passage. Then we will do some exercises.
i) Let’s do True or False exercises.

III Analyzing.
From your answers I can know that you are familiar with the passage. Now let’s
analyze this passage. First please listen to the tape about this passage.
i) What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
The Blue Danube is not only a piece of music, but it is the name for a crystal
chandelier in the Shanghai Grand Theater.
ii) Let’s go on with the second paragraph. What is the main idea?
This paragraph gives us the detailed information and the shape of chandelier.
iii) Let’s look at the third paragraph. What is the main idea?
The light which the chandelier throws onto the floor is unusual.
iv) Let’s move to the last paragraph. What is the main idea?

Since we learn the main idea of each paragraph, we can understand the whole
passage. Now let’s look at the key word and phrases.
