The Truth about Spiders
Spiders may look like insects, but are very different from them. One difference between a spider
and an insect is that a spider’s body is divided into two parts, the head and the abdomen. Insects
have a third part, called the thorax. Additionally, spiders have eight legs, while insects have only
six.
All spiders are carnivores. They eat insects or other small creatures. They use their fangs to
inject their prey with poison. All spiders also have spinnerets that are used to produce silk.
However, not all spiders make webs.
There are nearly 40000 types of spiders living in all parts of the world. One of the largest spiders
is the goliath spider, which lives in South America. One goliath spider measured more than 27
centimetres across. These spiders primarily live on birds. Like most spiders, they are not generally
considered dangerous to humans.
