1 Friend or enemy 教材分析: Friend or enemy 属于戏剧题材,主要通过 Winston 和 Betty 两个主人公之间 围绕话题 spiders 而展开的戏剧。 从文本特征来看,对话,语调和舞台指导搭建了戏剧文本。而作为高中的一 种新文本题材,教师需要引导学生关注教材中括号内的斜体部分的舞台说明和人 物的语调,帮助同学们认识到戏剧题材文章的特点和阅读方法。本文通过舞台说 明和语音语调形象生动地刻画了 Betty和 Winston 对蜘蛛截然不同的态度和情感, 对学生学习戏剧特点有很大的帮助,也是文章题材上的一个重点。 从文本内容上来讲,文本讲述的是 Betty 在厨房中看到一只蜘蛛,惊恐害怕, 因而想要丈夫杀死它。但是 Winston 在看过一个电视节目后认识到蜘蛛是有用生 物,故而表达反对意见,并希望能通过三个蜘蛛的益处来动摇 Betty 对蜘蛛的态 度。因此这三个蜘蛛的益处是文本内容的重点。 学情分析: 这是学生第一次接触戏剧题材,对文章的基本结构较为陌生,需要教师在开 篇之时为同学们介绍清楚戏剧的基本构成和重点关注部分。在词汇方面,较为生 疏的词汇多为名词, 教师需要通过图片,实物示范等方式来引导学生猜测词义。 另外,教师应该加强学生语音语调上的变化,加强学生对文本的理解和解读,从 而体会主人公情感态度变化。 高一(1)班学生英语基础较差,对英语也缺乏兴趣,需要调动听说读三感 来使其提高学习的兴趣。因此简单的开头部分我采用听的方法,帮助同学们感受 Betty 对蜘蛛的认知和情感态度,进一步加深同学们对戏剧文本题材的理解。最 后我打算用 role-play 活动,让同学们带着情感大声朗读文本,从而彻底理解文本 内容和题材中展现出来的人物对蜘蛛的情感态度。 Teaching objectives: 1. To enable students to know the meaning of some new words and expressions (shelter, survive, emerge, elastic, property, artificial organs, get your point). 2. To enable students to understand the development of the characters’ different opinions on spiders and why spiders are useful to human beings from the 3 perspectives. 3. To help students to understand things in nature and do not destroy them. Teaching aid: Multimedia 2 Teaching procedures: Stage Teacher’s activity Students’ activity Aim Pre-reading Ask students to watch two interesting pictures about spiders Ask students their opinions about spiders Talk about their impression about spiders and the reason brainstorm what they will do if they see a spider in their kitchen To arouse students’ interest, activate their prior experience with spiders and introduce the background of the text While-reading 1.Skimming Ask students to read the title and the heading 2. Ask students to listen to Line 1 through Line 10 and find out the basic impression of different characters on spiders. 3. Ask students to read Line 11 through Line 40 and fill in the blanks by using complete sentences. skim the title and the heading, find out the answers to the questions listen to Line 1 through Line 10, find out what happened at the beginning of the play Find out the 3 examples to show that the spiders are useful creatures to human beings: to whom? In which field? Why? Find out Betty’s words and stage directions to Winston’s persuasion so as to understand the change of her attitude towards spiders To help students learn the text type and the basic setting of the play. To let students locate some basic information about the two characters’ different opinions at the beginning of the play and learn some new phrases: be frightened of To help students learn the benefits of spiders, realize Betty’s change of attitude, and understand some new words and phrases: shelter, survive, emerge, property, bulletproof vests, artificial organs, nasty, disorders, poison, get one’s point 3 4. Ask students to make references from the text and further understand the change of attitudes. Predict the endings of the dialogue and explain the reason. Improve students’ ability to make references according to some details and further help them understand the change of attitudes. Post-reading Ask students to do a role play in pairs to read and act the play out emotionally Work in pairs to read and act the play out emotionally To consolidate what students have learnt Assignment Suppose you are a spider, write a self-introduction by using the words we have just learned (100 words ) To further consolidate what students have learnt
