Jake, whose bed was next to the room's only window, was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. But Ben had to spend all day and night lying flat on his bed. To kill time the two men began to talk. They talked for hours about everything. As days went by, a deep friendship began to develop between them. Every afternoon when Jake could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to Ben all the things he could see outside the window. And Ben would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened for all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Grand old trees beautified the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As Jake described all this in exquisite detail, Ben would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon Jake described a parade passing by. Although Ben couldn't hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as Jake portrayed it with descriptive words. Days and weeks passed. One morning the day nurse found the lifeless body of Jake, who had died peacefully in his sleep. Ben was heartbroken. As he looked at the window, an idea suddenly occurred to him. Perhaps he could see for himself what it was like outside. As soon as it seemed appropriate, Ben asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse approved and made the switch for him. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself! He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall! 24. The underlined word “enlivened” in Paragraph 2 probably means . He wanted to share the beauty with Ben. 27. What is the best title of the passage? A. The Roommates in Hospital B. The Hospital Window C. The Life on the Ward D. The Blank Wall 3 C In October 1937, a newly published book became an instant hit in London, with more than 100,000 copies sold in just a few weeks and still much sought after following three additional printings. That book was Red Star Over China by Edgar Snow, an American journalist who first made the Communist Party of China (CPC) known to the world. China in the 1930s was engulfed in the war against Japanese aggression. The Long March finally took the Central Red Army to Shaanbei in October 1935. Yan'an, a small town in Shaanbei and then the base of the CPC, was like an islet surrounded by the ocean of the Kuomintang's military and information blockage. The world knew little about the CPC and the Red Army but the demonized images propagated(宣传) by the Kuomintang. In pursuit of the newsworthy story in China, Snow made it to Yan’an after a long and difficult journey on July 13, 1936. After over 100 days in Shaanbei, Snow was fascinated by the unique charm of the East, something he believed representing the light of rejuvenation( 复 苏 ) for the ancient nation of China. For him, the Communists were the most outstanding men and women he had met in China in the past decade with the "military discipline, political morale, and the will to victory", and "for sheer dogged endurance, and ability to stand hardship without complaint", so they were "invincible". He recalled his four-month time with the Red Army as a most inspiring experience, during which he had met with the most free and happy Chinese he'd ever known. In these people who devoted themselves to what they believed was the right and just cause, Snow felt a vibrant hope, passion and the unbeatable strength of mankind, something he had never felt again eversince. In the preface to Red Star Over China, Snow attributed the global popularity of the book not to its style or form, but the stories. According to him, the stories were created by the young Chinese revolutionists and based on the accounts of them. What he did was simply writing them down in words as fair as the water running in spring. 28. What is the function of the Paragraph 2? A. To show the importance of Snow’s book in the history. B. To represent how cruelly and unfairly CPC was treated. C. To tell how difficult it was for Snow to write the book. D. To inform an important part of CPC’s history in Shaanbei. 28. Which of the following words can best describe Edgar Snow? A. Independent and curious. B. Determined and fair-minded. C. Ambitious and intelligent. D. Strong and optimistic. 29. What can we learn about the book “Red Star Over China”? A. It was the first book to publicize China to the world. B. It was written to show Edgar Snow’s sympathy for the Red Army. C. It was a charming reflection of the political wisdom of an ancient country. D. It was filled with first-hand information from the young Chinese revolutionists. 30. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To commemorate a famous writer. B. To recall the long history of CPC. C. To introduce an important book. D. To show respect for the martyrs. 4 D Chinese physicists say they have built a quantum(量子) computer one trillion times faster than the most powerful computer, with potential for some real-life applications. The researchers said their Jiuzhang prototype quantum computer took a little over three minutes to complete a task that the world's fastest conventional machine would not be able to complete in 600 million years. The Jiuzhang used light particles called photons( 光 子 ) to perform calculations. The photons must be generated in their purest possible form, because even a small physical discrepancy could lead to errors. And they must be produced one after another, a technical challenge that pushes optical precision to the limit. "It is easy for us to have one sip of water each time, but it is difficult to drink just a water molecule(分子) each time," said Pan, a lead scientist in China's national quantum research programme with the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Anhui province. Quantum computers rely on some counter-intuitive physics of the subatomic world, and are extremely fragile and difficult to maintain. However, conventional computers struggle to cope with problems that involve uncertainty, such as predicting the rise and fall of the stock market, tracing the origin of a new-found virus, or guessing a bank account password. The Jiuzhang was built to find clues in this kind of chaos. For instance, a database may contain many smaller data sets, some of which could have an unknown relation to the other. The Jiuzhang could quickly find out which data sets were related, a daunting task to traditional computers if the database contained a large amount of random information. This unique calculation capability has a wide range of potential applications such as data mining, bioinformatics and finance, according to the researchers. However, it cannot be used immediately in real-life applications at present. It will need to work with a programmable chip to perform various calculations, so your bank accounts are still safe. 32. What can we know about Jiuzhang? A. It is faster than any conventional computer. B. It has found various applications in real life. C. It needs to use water molecules for calculation. D. It has little requirement for the purity of photons. 33.What is the advantage of quantum computers? A. It can keep working in a stable manner. B. It is good at dealing with problems about prediction. C. It depends on physic rules that are easy to understand. D. It can find relevance in chaotic and random information quickly. 34. In which siuation are we most likely to use quantum computer? A. Collecting trafic data. B. Forecasting weather. C. Writing poems for loved ones. D. Calculating the distance between two cities. 5 35. What is the main idea of this passsage? A. China claims the lead in quantum computing in the world with Jiuzhang. B. Quantum computing is becoming an area of study with greatpotentials. C. Chinese scientists built Jiuzhang, a super powerful calculatingmachine. D. China’s new quantum computer has outperformed all traditional computers. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 MEMORY-ENHANCING STRATEGIES What are some everyday ways we can improve our memory, including recall? 36 . One strategy is rehearsal, or the conscious repetition of information to be remembered. 37 . You may recall that 6 x 6 = 36, 6 x 7 = 42, and 6 x 8 = 48. Memorizing these facts is rehearsal. 38 : you organize information into manageable bits or chunks( 组 块 ). Chunking is useful when trying to remember information like dates and phone numbers. Instead of trying to remember 5205550467, you remember the number as 520-555-0467. Some other strategies that are used to improve memory include expressive writing and saying words aloud. 39 , particularly if you write about a traumatic experience in your life. The researchers found that people who wrote about their traumatic experiences increased their short-term memory capacity after five weeks. Psychologists can’t explain why this writing task works, but it does. What if you want to remember items you need to pick up at the store? 40 . A series of studies found that saying a word out loud improves your memory for the word because it increases the word’s distinctiveness. Feel silly, saying random grocery items aloud? This technique works equally well if you just mouth thewords. A. Chunking works in this way B. Another strategy is chunking C. Simply say them out loud to yourself D. You can use memory-enhancing strategies E. Expressive writing helps boost your short-term memory F. Try this fun activity that employs a memory-enhancing strategy G. He had thought it would be a good way to give back. But today he just felt tired. While on a short break, Dale took a walk through the garden. There were people sitting on benches, chatting together. A woman sat knitting, looking very pleased with herself. The strands of brightly-colored yarn (纱线) disappeared quickly through her hands. Across the courtyard, there was a man sitting alone at a table with a chessboard in front of him. Dale watched with curiosity as the man would stare at the pieces (棋子), then move them, and then would do the same from the other side of the board. On his way home after the day had ended, Dale found himself thinking about the man. How he was hunched (弓背) over in deep thought, playing a game against himself. How odd, he thought. Each Sunday, Dale would see the man doing the same thing. While everyone else talked with one another or happily carried on, the man would sit, slightly bent over and scratching his chin. His eyes rarely came off of the chessboard. One Sunday, Dale went to the garden on his break expecting to see the man at his normal spot. But he wasn't there. It was Father's Day and there were many visitors at the home. Dale shrugged and thought the man must be busy with his family. That afternoon, Dale was mopping the hallways when he happened to pass by the man's room. The door was slightly open and he could see the man sitting in a chair next to the window, peering out at the courtyard. Dale knocked lightly and asked to come in. The man nodded. Dale saw a collection of framed photographs on the bedside table. “Are those your children?” he asked. “Yes, they’re all grown and live far away. They have their own kids now,” he replied. Dale, not wanting the man to be alone on Father's Day, had an idea. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Para1: He went outside and got the chessboard from the table. Para2: Dale was glad that he volunteered. 9 2021届高三高考考前热身训练 参考答案 阅读理解(每题2.5分) 21-23 CDA 24-27 DACB 28-31 ABDC 32-35 ADBC 36-40 DGBEC 完形填空(每题1分) 41-45 BDCAC 46-50 ADCBA 51-55 BDCDA 语法填空(每题1.5分) 56. that/which 57. announced 58. included 59. currently 60. existing 61. but 62. Today, I’m so honored to be here and deliver the speech titled “The Fruit of Labor Is Sweetest”. Since labor creates health and wealth, Chinese people place a high value on it. For us students, labor can also help build up our body, cultivate our awareness of independence and even strengthen the bond with our peers and families. I believe everybody present will never forget the time that we spent together doing the laborious work on the farm. Worn out as we were, we felt a strong sense of achievement after the work was accomplished. In my daily life, I often do some housework that I can afford, such as cleaning the rooms, washing the dishes. I’m proud to be able to help my parents and happy to enjoy “the fruit of labor grown by myself”. The fruit of labor is sweetest! I’m calling for your devotion to labor and let’s shoulder the responsibility. Thanks for listening! 10 读后续写(25分) Possible version1 He went outside and got the chessboard from the table. “Shall we play chess together?" The man hesitated. He stared at the chessboard sinking into his thoughts. It took a while before the old man finally shared his thoughts with Dale. In the past, he often played chess with his children, which were some of his fondest memories. However, they all died because of a car accident and the old man has been alone ever since. "Sorry, I lied to you," the man choked, eyes brimming with tears. “Thank you for your kind help.” Dale was glad that he volunteered. Deeply touched, he now understood why the man preferred to play chess alone, and why he sat silently in his room on Father's Day. He carefully placed all the pieces on the chessboard and said, "Sir, I'm sorry for your loss. But as you may notice, I come here every Sunday. If you wish, you can play chess with me, as you did with your children. A flicker of a smile crossed the man’s face. Taking a deep breath, he settled himself opposite to Dale and moved a piece. Possible version2 He went outside and got the chessboard from the table. Considering the old man's particular situation, Dale invited him to play a game of chess. The old man seemed a little sad because of the absence of his children, staring at the photographs in silence instead of responding. So Dale asked again. The old man accepted and moved the pieces on the chessboard. Dale took his time with every move in order to spend more time with the old man. The old man smiled, his eyes shining like diamonds when he won. "This is the best Father's Day I have ever had!" he said. Dale was glad that he volunteered. This volunteering experience at the retirement home was not only valuable but also unforgettable. Above all, helping others had enriched his life. If he had not been a volunteer, he wouldn't have known the meaning of helping others. When he looked back on his experience, he hoped that in the future he could do more to make the world full of love and warmth.
