Now, it may be difficult to predict the future, but many people believe that we will live on
Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, Earth, is becoming more and more crowed and polluted.
Well, what problems will we need to solve before we prepare to go to Mars?
First of all, transport should be much better. At present, humans need to spend months going to
Mars by spaceship. However, by 2100, spaceship can travel at half the speed of light. It might take
us two or three days to get there!
Secondly, humans need food, water and air to live. Scientists should develop plants that can be
grown on Mars. These plants will produce the food, water and air that we need. However, there is
no answer for all the problems now.
There is also a problem for us to live on Mars. Mars attracts us much less than the Earth does.
This will be dangerous because we could easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space
there. We will have to wear special shoes to make ourselves heavier.
In some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on the earth today. Food will not be the
same --- meals will probably be in the form of pills and will not be as delicious as they are today.
Also, space travel will probably make many people feel very uncomfortable.

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too
quickly. So he sent them to go and look at a pear tree far away in turns.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in the summer, and the
youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to
describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly. The second son said no, it
was covered with green leaves, and full of hope. The third son disagreed. He said there were many
flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most wonderful thing he had ever
seen. The last son disagreed with all of them, he said there was lots of fruit in the tree, full of life
and harvest(收获).
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, but they had each seen only one
season in the tree's life. He told them, “You can not judge a tree, or a person by only one season
and its true nature--the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life --can only be judged at the
end, when all the seasons are up.”
If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your
summer, and harvest of your fall. Don't let the pain of one season kill the joy of all the rest.

Going camping is the best fun in the world if we know how to do it. Every healthy boy and
girl, if possible, should enjoy living outdoors for a week or two like an Indian every year.
A part of four boys makes a good number for a camping trip. They will probably agree better
than two or three. They can do much of the camp work in pairs. No one need to be left alone to
look after the camp while others go fishing or hunting or to some nearby town for food and drinks.
It is always better to take along someone who has “camped out” before. If he cannot be found,
then make your plans, decide what you will do and how you will do it, take a few cooking lessons
from your mother or someone else.
First choose a leader, not because he is any more important than the rest but because if
someone goes ahead and gives directions, the life in camp will run much more easily and
everyone will have a better time.
If it is your first experience in camping, you had better go somewhere near home. The best
place is one that can be reached by car. If we have to carry our suppliers on our backs or in a
canoe, the amount we can take will be much less.
After you have had some experience near home you can safely try the other way. Where you
go is of little importance. Near every large city there are some lakes or rivers where you can find a
good camping site. Campers always have more fun if they are near some water, but if such a place
is not easily found where you live, go into the forest. Try to get away from towns or villages. The
wider place is the better.

66. The leader usually goes ahead and gives directions in camp.
67. Somewhere near my home.
68. Wear some water/ some lakes or rivers.
