Libraries are doing well in the digital times. Here are some of the most awesome examples.
1. Freiburg University Library, Germany
The original library of the Freiburg University was rebuilt in 2015 following the project of
Degelo Architects. The new building has 41,000 square meters and looks like a cut diamond.
Inside, there are 1,200 workspaces in four reading rooms plus 500 work areas. The library offers
in the basement a system of automated checkout machines and 700,000 volumes that can be
borrowed.
2. Microlibrary at Taman Bima, Indonesia
This wonderful little public library is located in a Kampung neighborhood near the Bandung
airport, Indonesia. The building was designed by the Bandung office of SHAU architect studio. It
has 160 square meters and is built upon a preexisting stage that was already used by the local
community for events and gatherings. The Bima public library is the first of a series of similar
microlibraries that are planned to be built across Indonesia.
3. Public Library of Constitución, Chile
The city in Constitución, Chile, was devastated by 8.8 degrees earthquake in 2010. The new
public library, designed by Sebastian Irarrázaval, is a part of the initiative to rebuild the city.
Constitución is one of the biggest clusters of wood production in Chile. This heritage is reflected
in the construction of this post-disaster library. It’s made almost entirely of wood, and only the
firewalls are done with exposed poured concrete. The internal area of the library exceeds 350
square meters. The building was opened in 2015, five years after the earthquake.
4. LiYuan Library, China
Built in 2011 in a small village of Huairou on the outskirts (郊区) of Beijing, this beautiful
nature-inspired library was designed by Li Xiaodong. The 175-square-meter building’s interior is
spatially diverse by using steps and small level changes to create distinct places. The wooden
sticks temper the bright light and spread it evenly throughout the space to give a perfect reading
environment. The library closes at dusk because there is no electricity in it.
21. Which of the following libraries is the biggest one?
A. LiYuan Library B. Microlibrary at Taman Bima
C. Freiburg University Library D. Public Library of Constitución

Since the moment Darnell Wynn was diagnosed with ovarian (卵巢的) cancer, she has
refused to let the disease keep her from her passion-running.This weekend she and a group of
supporters gathered together and ran the Partner Re 5K route to raise awareness of ovarian
cancer.She is a two-year survivor.
When she first received the surgery, one of her main concerns was when she could be able
to run again. She was sent home to heal before returning for chemotherapy.“I came home, and
never thought about cancer,” she said.“I thought I'd just had surgery and needed to heal.It wasn't
until I went back and entered the chemotherapy room with my son that I really understood it was
cancer.Then I really broke down.”
During and after treatment she ran whenever she could. She even participated in

When she first developed ovarian cancer, her symptoms had been back pain and lack of
energy. This time, the only signs were high levels of ovarian cancer markers in her blood.“I went

with early stage ovarian cancer will have a recurrence(复发) of it,and the rate goes up for women
in the later stages.
The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is recognizing September as Ovarian Cancer
Awareness Month.Wynn hopes it will help more women learn the symptoms and risk factors.
“The symptoms are often masked and a lot of women don't know that if they have a close
family member who had breast cancer, they are at the risk of ovarian cancer,” she said.“I had two
sisters who had breast cancer.Every year I went for Pap smears.A Pap smear only shows up
cervical cancer,it doesn't show ovarian cancer. We think we are doing all the right tests.Women
should know if they have a history of breast cancer, they should have a regular internal ultrasound
as well,in addition to a Pap smear.”

Step into Moving to Mars, an exhibition of Mars mission and colony design at London's
Design Museum, and immediately you have good reasons not to move there.
Frightening texts on the walls announce that Mars wasn't made for you; that there is no life
and precious little water; that, dressed in a spacesuit, you will never touch, taste or smell the planet
you now call “home”. As Lisa Grossman wrote for New Scientist a couple of years ago, “What's
different about Mars is that there is nothing to do there except try not to die.”
It is an odd beginning for such a celebratory exhibition, but it provides a valuable, dark
background against which the rest of the show can sparkle (闪耀)—a show that is, as its chief
manager Justin McGuirk remarks, “not about Mars; this is an exhibition about people”.
Moving along, there is a quick yet clear flash through what the science fiction writer Kim
Stanley Robinson calls “the history of Mars in the human mind”. A Babylonian clay tablet and a
Greek vase speak of early ideas about the planet. A poster for the original Total Recall film
reminds us of Mars's psychological threat.
The main part of the show is our current plans for the Red Planet. There are real spacesuits
and models of 3D-printed Martian settlements and suitable clothing and furniture. Mission
architecture and engineering sketches line the walls. Real hammers meant for the International
Space Station are wall-mounted (固定在墙上的) beside a low-gravity table that has yet to leave
and may indeed never leave Earth.
This, of course, is the great strength of approaching science through design: reality and
assumptions can be given equal visual weight, drawing us into an informed conversation about
what it is that we actually want from a future on Mars.
28.What is the text mainly about?
A.How to move to Mars.
第 7 页 共 12 页
B.How to survive on Mars.
C.What preparations we made for Mars.
D.What the exhibition of Mars truly tells us.
29.What can we learn from Lisa Grossman?
A.It's impractical to live on Mars.
B.It's no good settling on Mars.
C.You have nothing to do when living on Mars.
D.You can live on Mars in a spacesuit.
30.What does the exhibition focus on?
A.The current plans for Mars.
B.The advantages of living on Mars.
C.The early ideas about Mars.
D.The history of Mars in the human mind.
31.What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A.A story. B.An opinion.
C.A fantasy. D.A solution.

The stories we share with one another are important. They show wisdom and provide
inspiration. They are important to our development. But sometimes people choose not to tell.
Consider the negative effects of not sharing a story in the news: People are wondering if public
health officials are holding back too much information about the recent outbreak of Ebola.
There is a danger in holding back stories that ought to be told. Bobette Buster said it like this,
“The fact is, history has shown us that stories not told can become like a dangerous genie (妖怪)
left in a bottle. When they are finally uncorked, their power to destroy is set free.”
There are a number of reasons why we hide parts of our story: they often show our weaknesses or
expose our disadvantages; they require courage and strength to share; and of course, there are
some stories that should be kept secret—especially those that embarrass someone else.
Most of us have two selves: the one we display on the outside and the one we actually are on the
inside. And the better we get at hiding the stories that show our true selves, the more damage we
may be causing to ourselves and to others.
Honesty and openness is important: It proves we are trustworthy. It displays we are human. We are
not perfect or better. It highlights the importance of hard work and personal development. Hard
第 8 页 共 12 页
work may not allow us to overcome our disadvantages completely. But with hard work, we do not
have to be restricted to our mistakes.
Does this mean we admit every weakness, every disadvantage, and every secret regret to
everybody we meet? No, of course not. There is a time and a place and a certain level of
relationship necessary for some stories to be told in an appropriate manner.
32. What’s the function of the example in Paragraph 2?
A. It reflects that people are concerning about the spread of Ebola.
B. It shows the bad effect caused by sharing a story.
C. It proves not sharing a story can cause trouble.
D. It concludes that one should share a story at a proper time.
33. One of the reasons why people are unwilling to share experiences is that _______.
A. story-sharing highlights the importance of hard work
B. people are used to exposing their weaknesses
C. people sometimes have no courage to share their stories
D. some stories make themselves feel uneasy
34. Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “uncorked” in Paragraph 3?
A. freed B. broken C. unfolded D. untouched
35. The writer aims to convince us to _______.
A. be open to people close to you by sharing some secrets
B. share stories appropriately for the good of others and ourselves
C. remove the dangers that can be caused by untold stories
D. realize the importance of being honest when making friends

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余

Why Do We Get Angry?
Anger seems simple when we are feeling it, but the causes of anger are various. Knowing these
causes can make us examine our behavior, and correct bad habits. The main reasons we get angry
are triggering(触发)events, personality traits(特征), and our assessment of situations. 36
Triggering events for anger are so many that to describe them all would take hundreds of pages.
第 9 页 共 12 页
However, here are some examples: being cut off in traffic, a deadline approaching, experiencing
physical pain, and much more. 37 The reason why someone is triggered by something and
others are not is often due to one’s personal history and psychological traits.
Each person, no matter who they are, has psychological imbalances. People who have
personality traits that connect with competitiveness and low upset tolerance are much more likely
to get angry. 38 Also, sometimes pre-anger does not have to do with a lasting condition,
but rather a temporary state before a triggering event has occurred.
39 Sometimes even routine occurrences become sources of pre-anger, or anger itself.
Sometimes ignorance and negative (消极的) outlooks on situations can create anger.
40 However, anger can easily turn violent, and it is best to know the reasons for anger to
appear in order to prevent its presence. With these main reasons in mind, we can evaluate our level
of anger throughout the day and prevent cases of outbursts by comprehending the reasons for our
feelings.
A. Our attitude and viewpoint on situations can create anger within us as well.
B. But some types of situations can help us to get rid of the occurrence of anger.
C. Anger is rarely looked upon as a beneficial character trait, and is usually advised to reduce it.
D. Anger is a particularly strong feeling and maybe people think that they have reasons to feel
angry.
E. Having these personality traits implies the pre-anger state, where anger is in the background of
your mind.
F. Understanding these reasons will control our own anger if we are willing to evaluate ourselves
with a critical eye.
G. Not everyone acts the same in response to events, and that is why what triggers one person may
or may not trigger another.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their
mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money
with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was
breathing down their necks(盯着他们).
One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way
home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his
parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed
and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she
would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run
to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived
late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned
that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and
promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
第 12 页 共 12 页
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get
tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and
his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and
he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish
line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.
