高三英语阅读训练(4) 第 1 页 共 2 页 南昌市外国语学校 2021 届高三英语原创阅读训练(4) A In the past decade,a nonprofit organization has been trying to reverse an imbalance in the quality education provided in urban and rural areas.Since 2008,Teach for China has been sending graduate volunteers from some of the country's top universities to teach in remote villages and address a shortage of talented teachers. The program is now beginning to gain rewards. When He Liu arrived at the middle school in Dazhai village,Yunnan province, seven years ago,the local children had never heard of Beethoven,Chopin or other composers, and often looked confused when their new teacher played a nocture(夜曲) in class or showed them DVDs of The Phantom of the Opera. For the students, anything from outside their isglated village was entirel unkown, and therefore hard to comprehend. "But as they listened to more songs and watched more movies,I saw signs that they were enjoying themselves. Some would nod their heads to the music and pretend they were fconducting," said the 29-year-old graduate of Beijing Normal University, recallingthe change in his former students. After graduating in 2010,He traveled to the mountainous area to work as a history teacher. He discovered that most of the teachers in the village had graduated from vocational schools and could teach little more than the contents of textbooks."In addition, the parents, who had been farmers all their lives,or worked in big cities and left their children in the care of their grandparents, could only provide limited knowledge. These were taking a toll on the students," he said. Feng Qingli, who was head.teacher during He's time in the village, said the isolated location hampers the children's progress."Nearly all of them work hard, but the problem is that they have limited contact with the outside world,so their vision is narrow," he said. “When I was young, the village seemed to be the entire world to me.It was Mr.He who made me realize that our village is so small and that I could go out and see the world if I worked hard," she said. According to Teach for China, about 1,000 fresh graduates from China's top universities joined its program in the period between 2008 and 2016.In 2006,about 470 classes involved with the program nationwide saw average marks rise, and more than 420 registered a surge in the number of students who regularly scored more than 80 percent in exams. 1.What can we know from the passage? We found a restaurant that sold dishes from Xi'an when we explored the area around our office one day.We decided to try it out.My coworker suggested that we try a "Roger Moore".I was confused,as that's the name of a famous British actor,so I asked her what she meant. She explained that she was talking about roujiamo,a type of Chinese food that comes from Shanxi province.I'd never had one before,so I tried one at her suggestion. My first thought was that roujiamo was very similar to an American hamburger. The pieces of bread were like hamburger buns, with meat in the middle just like a regular burger. My roujiamo was made fresh,so the bread was still warm. It was soft when I bit into it,and the meat inside was delicious and tender. In fact,I enjoyed it so much that I ordered more to take home with me.Though it's just a snack,it's still quite filling and can easily satisfy your appetite. Roujiamo is popular in other countries too.For example,in the US,there's a businessman named Jason Wang who's the CEO of a restaurant chain called "Xi'an Famous Foods",and roujiamo is one of its most popular dishes. There are more than 10 “Xi'an Famous Foods”restaurants in the US,attracting about 140,000 customers every year, which shows how popular it is there.Indeed,Time Out magazine named Xi'an Famous Foods one of the best Chinese restaurants in the US. There are a variety of things you can put inside the"mo",as the bread is called. For example,in certain areas in Xi'an,the meat used is usually beef that is seasoned with cumin(孜然) and pepper. But in Gansu province, lamb is more common. And the first roujiamo that I tried was made with pork. Some people prepare roujiamo in other unique ways. There's a kind of roujiamo with a special gravy inside it,which gives it a more interesting flavor. Some people even use steamed buns instead of bread. But however it's made,it's still a tasty snack. And for an American-like me who grew up eating hamburgers,it's the perfect combination of East and West. 1.What can we know about "roujiamo" from this passage? A.It has another name called"Roger Moore". B.It's the same as hamburger. C.It can make you be full easily. D.The original roujiamo is filled with pork. 2.Which of following sentence is ture? A.Roujiamo is a traditional snack originated from Gansu province. B.The author had tired roujiamo in"Xi'an Famous Food"before he came to China. C.Roujiamo is the same from different area in China. D.The ways of making roujiamo is varied. 3.What dose the author think of roujiamo? A.It is more delicious when it's warm. B.It is not so tasty as hamburger. C.The roujiamo with special gravy taste better. D.It's always tasty no matter how it is made. 4.Which of the following opinion may the author agree with? A.The food sold in big restaurants is the most delicious. B.Many American think that roujiamo is delicious. C.Roujiamo is the most tasty chinese food. D.How the roujiamo is made is very important. 答案:DDBC 答案:CDDB 高三英语阅读训练(4) 第 2 页 共 2 页 C Robert Ballard asked himself that question at the end of his expedition to the Black Sea in 2000. It was a challenge he couldn't resist. Enter Hercules, Robert’s latest underwater tool. Like some other ROVS(水下机器人), Hercules is equipped with cameras and thrusters and is controlled by a pilot at the surface. However, Hercules is the first underwater vehicle designed to dig up sunken ships, like a robot archaeologist. Hercules has mechanical arms and water jets, and uses suction(抽吸装置) to dig up a wreck just as an archaeologist on land might use a shovel or a brush. But what about the mud that is stirred up when ROVS get too close? That's what's really amazing about Hercules. It can "see" things in water as cloudy as pea soup. Hercules is equipped with sensors that use sound waves, not light, to create 3-D images of a wreck. Up on the surface, Robert and his team members will be able to see those images on a monitor in the ship's control room. The images won't be the same as pictures from a camera. But they will be detailed enough to allow the pilot to carefully guide the ROV’S mechanical arms to grabs and lift objects, to brush off mud, and to collect samples How will this new tool change underwater exploration? Imagine that you’ve just found another Roman ship in the Black Sea. This time you send Hercules down. The seafloor is thick with soft mud, an underwater explorer's worst enemy. In moments, the ROV has stirred things up enough so that its cameras are useless. But with its sensors. Hercules can still "see" what's around it. On a monitor in the ship above, Robert can tell from the images Hercules is sending back that it has come upon what looks like a large amphora. Carefully, the pilot works Hercules's controls The ROV’S mechanical arms gently grab the ancient jar. Next, the pilot guides Hercules to a cage-like platform called an elevator that has been sent to the bottom. There, in clear water. Robert can see through the ROV's cameras that the object is an amphora——in perfect condition. Hercules places the amphora on the elevator. Weights are released and the elevator rises. On the ship, researchers are waiting on deck. The jar is heavy. There is a wooden stopper still in the top. It feels like there is something inside. Could it be olive oil? Wine? Sardines? Earlier, archaeologists could only guess what was in an amphora on the floor of the Black Sea. Now with Hercules's help, research may soon be able to find out for sure. They might even get a taste of what Romans were eating 1, 500 years ago. In a real situation like this imaginary one, Robert hopes to bring sample artifacts safely to the surface. Sample artifacts could help scientists in their analysis——of types of wood or pottery or coins——while still leaving wrecks mostly undisturbed. With each new discovery, Robert Ballard is adding new pages to the history of past civilizations. 1. How do you understand what is the underlined word "amphora"? A. Some treasures B. Discover The History Of Past Civilizations D College is a big deal for American students as well as for Chinese students. During the college application, some parents become extremely worried. This only adds to the pressure. Before I applied to the colleges, I told my parents I would get everything straightened out. If I needed any help, I promised that I would ask them. As it turned out, I had no problem putting everything together on my own, including my resume and a basic outline of my activities in high school. The only part where I asked for my parents’ advice was the essays. In writing and revising the essays, I needed feedback from an audience. As my parents know me better than anyone, they were perfect for the job. The essays are extremely important in college admissions. In a competitive pool of applicants, the test scores and activities, as well as the recommendations are all going to be very similar. The essays are the one area in which students can make themselves stand out. Essays don't have to be big and complicated. I wrote three essays, all focusing on small matters and using simple sentences. The admissions officers have to read hundreds of essays a day; they are already tired of SAT vocabularies and long sentences. Therefore, a straightforward writing style is refreshing to their eyes as well as their minds. Essays were the key to my success in the admission game. I just wrote about what I wanted to say, not what I thought the admissions officers would like to hear. In my main narrative-style essay, I told the story of my American journey at the age of 14.During that time, I was not bogged down by trying to fit into a new environment. Instead, I looked up to Mother Teresa for guidance and strength. I found my new self and grew to love the name Teresa and the memories it held. In my two minor essays, I explained the major events of my life, why I loved writing and why my dad is the person who has the greatest influence on me. Both provided details of my character. The essay about writing, which is titled, "I Shall Not Live in Vain"(inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem), earned a lot of praise. It is because I really looked into my heart and thought deeply in order to reach my answers. 1. The writer asked his parents for advice on his essays because . A. they are more experienced B. they know him perfectly well C. they are the only people he can rely on D. he has no friend in American 2. Why do the officers focus on the writer’s essays? A. Because of his colorful vocabularies B. Because his article is extraordinary C. Because his style of writing is distinctive D. Because he has passed the SAT 3. In order to impress the admissions officers, the applicants should write their essays . A. with a big vocabulary worthy B. with simple sentences C. about small matters D. in a straightforward style 5. The text is mainly about_______.
