Seoul is a modern city full of delicious food options as well as great attractions, historical sights, and places to shop. Best time to visit The best month for sightseeing in Seoul is during the warm weather between summer and early fall. Getting around In Seoul, you have three main forms of transportation: train, subway, and taxi. The fastest option to get around Seoul is the Airport Railroad Express train. It has two options: the express and the all-stop. While the all-stop option is cheaper, it’s about 15 minutes slower than the express. Seoul has one of the largest subway stations in the world with 14 lines. It may seem a bit awful, but once you get used to it, it’s pretty easy. Another option to get around Seoul is to rent a car. This is one of the least used options as Seoul has a convenient public transportation system. Places to visit Everland — the largest theme park in Korea. Gangnam is another popular district, which has become famous thanks to the song Gangnam’ Style. One of the best areas in Gangnam is Garosugil, where you will find cafes, art galleries, retail stores. A great hotel option in this area is the Dormy Inn Premium Seoul Garosugil. 1. When is the best time to visit Seoul ? A. January B. February C. December D. September 2. Where can we have a bird-eye view of Seoul ? A. Everland B. Lotte World C. Seoul Tower D. Garosugil 3. What can we learn from the text ? A. Gangnam has become popular because of a hit song. B. Myeongdong is a shop favored by tourists. C. Renting cars is the most common way to get around Seoul. D. The all-stop train offers a more comfortable but more expensive service. B We all know failure is the mother of success and each of us fails from time to time. If we are wise, we accept these failures as a necessary part of the learning process. But all too often we convey to our children either by words or by actions that failure is something to be ashamed of, that nothing but top performance meets our approval Donnie was my youngest third-grader. His fear of failure kept him from classroom games that other children played excitedly. He seldom answered questions — he might be wrong. He seldom finished his work because he repeatedly checked with me to be sure he hadn’t made a mistake. I tried my best to build his self-confidence. But nothing changed until midterm, when Mary Anne, a student teacher, was assigned to our classroom. She was young and pretty, and she loved children. My pupils, Donnie included. But even enthusiastic, loving Mary was baffled by this little boy who feared he might make a mistake. Then one morning we were working math problems. Donnie had copied the problems clearly and carefully. Pleased with his progress, I left the children with Mary. But when I returned. Donnie was in tears. He’d missed the third problem. Mary looked at me in despair. Suddenly her face brightened. From the desk we shared, she got a box filled with pencils. “Look, Donnie,” she said. “I’ve got something to show you.” She removed the pencils and placed them on his desk. “See these pencils, Donnie ?” she continued. “They belong to Mrs. Lindstrom and me. See how the erasers are worn? That’s because we make mistakes too. Lots of them. But we erase the mistakes and try again. That’s what you must learn to do, too.” She kissed him and continued: “I’ll leave one of these pencils on your desk so you’ll remember that everybody makes mistakes, even teachers.” Donnie looked up with love in his eyes and just a glimmer(少许)of a smile. The Pencil became Donnie’s prized possession. That, together with Anne’s frequent encouragement and praise for even Donnie’s small successes, gradually persuaded him that it’s all right to make mistakes — as long as you erase them and try again. 4. Why did Donnie rarely finish his work ? A. Because he seldom answered those difficult questions. B. Because he couldn’t work together with his classmates. C. Because he spent too much time checking his answers. D. Because he never did his work until the very last minute. 5. The word “baffled” in Paragraph 3 most probably means . A. confused B. impressed C. satisfied D. encouraged 6. Which of the following words best describe Mary Anne as she is shown in the article ? A. Patient and inspiring B. Creative and modest C. Determined and strict D. Considerate and proud 7. The story was written mainly to A. tell us who influenced Donnie greatly. B. give a life lesson about failure. C. sing the praises of Mary Anne. D. show us how to use erasers. C During the holidays, many families don’t consider taking proper action to prevent their homes from suffering holiday stealing. With just a few simple steps, you can better make sure of the safety of your home during all of the holiday celebrations. Here are a few tips for making it difficult to tell you are away from home. ● Either have a trusted neighbor pick up your mail and newspapers, or tell your mailperson to hold your mail until you return. Nothing says “Hey, we are not home!” like when your postbox is filled with all kinds of mails and you have many different newspapers in your driveway. ● Set several different lights in your house on random timers (随机定时器). Don’t leave your outdoor lights on all the time. Instead, put your outside lights on timers to be on during the nights. If an outdoor light remains on for days at a time, it means that nobody is home to turn it off. ● If you have pets that you are not taking with you on vacation, leave them with a friend, rather than having someone come into your house every day to take care of them. When thefts see a neighbor or friend entering your house every day, they will know you are not home. ● Close all your curtains when you leave town. This is effective to deter possible thefts, as no one can see what is in your house. If they don’t know what there is to take, then the risk is even greater for them to break in. ● This article just has suggested a few tips to help you keep your house safe while you are on holiday. Nothing can truly protect your home unless you have it monitored by a professional home security system. 8. If you are on holiday in other places, the lights in your house should________ A. be kept on all the night. B. be lit in an irregular way. C. be turned off all the time . D. be turned on only once one day. 9. To make your home well protected, what does the writer advise you to do ? A. Have all the curtains closed all the time. B. Equip your home with security system. C. Turn to your close neighbors or friends. D. Stop your mail service at once. 10. Most of the tips mentioned in the text seem to ______ A. give a false impression on stealing. B. have no effect on preventing thefts. C. be very popular with families. D. be a little hard to be brought into effect. 11. What is the main idea of the passage ? A. to tell us how to prevent the thefts around the holidays. B. to let the outdoor lights on all the time. C. to tell us many families suffering from the thefts while they are on holiday. D. to tell you to have your neighbor go to your house to take care of your pet. D With the rapid development of China's economy, more and more Chinese consumers’ crazy appetite for luxury goods ( 奢 侈 品 ) and services appears unstoppable, with just 2 percent of the Chinese population responsible for one-third of the world’s luxury items. As China’s economic miracle develops, the market opportunities for all sorts of luxury goods and services are increasing. Luxury consumption in China now extends ways beyond well-known car, clothing and jewelry brands. For example, the luxury jet market in China is the fastest-growing in the world, even outstripping that of the United States, with a market share of 25 percent. This trend appears to continue, with 20 to 30 percent growth expected in China, compared with only 2 to 3 percent in the US. But more importantly, China’s luxury jet market growth represents a major development in the private consumption of luxury items. China’s high-quality red wine market also provides evidence of the growth in private consumption of luxury goods. In 2013, China became the largest market for red wine in the world, even overtaking France, with l.86 billion bottles consumed in China last year. Over the past five years, China’s red wine consumption has grown 136 percent. According to my ongoing consumer research in this area while working at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, public consumption of such expensive global luxury brands such as Prada and Armani is easily explained by the desire to “gain face” and publicly display social climbing through material possessions. On the other hand, it is “self-reward” that lies behind consumer motivation in this area. Chinese consumers who have experienced rapid financial and economic gains appear particularly prone to the need to reward themselves for their success. But this has little to do with “gaining face” and impressing others and much more to do with the need for personal contentment. Finally, the growth in private luxury consumption in China is set to continue in part due to the maturity of the Chinese consumer and advancement of Chinese consumer culture generally. 12. What do you think the author would most probably be ? A. A professor B. An accountant C. A news reporter D. A conductor 13. What can we learn from Paragraph 2 and 3 ? A. China’s luxury jet market growth is only 2% to 3%. B. France was once the largest market for red wine in the world before 2013. C. The luxury jet market in the US shares 35% of the jet consumption in the world. D. China’s red wine consumption has increased to 1.86 billion bottles since 2013. 14. The main idea of the fourth paragraph is______ A. public consumption of global luxury brands is increasing. B. Chinese consumers have experienced rapid financial and economic gains. C. Chinese consumers enjoy “gain face” and “self-reward”. D. the reason why Chinese consumers are fond of the global luxury goods. 15. What can be the best title for the passage ? A. Future Private Luxury Consumption in China. B. The Potential Luxury Jet Market in China. C. Chinese Appetite for Luxury Goods and Services. D. The Maturity of the Chinese Consumers. 第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余 选项 Music plays an important role in the development of children from the time they are born. 16 Music also enable children to learn faster in other area of development, such as language and memorization. Whenever and wherever 43 (disaster) happen — 9/11 Attacks in New York 14 years ago or the explosion in Tianjin on Wednesday night — it is always the firefighters 44 take the lead to run to the very center, saving lives by 45 (risk) their own. I cried today near the explosion site, not because of the smoke from the ongoing fire 46 because of a short message a firefighter sent to a trusted friend that went viral online. It reads, “If I cannot make it, my father is 47 (you) father; and please remember 48 (sweep) my mother’s tomb.” I was thrilled later to learn that he did make it. “Everyone knows it’s 49 (danger) to be a firefighter. But he has always liked it and has done it for 12 years,” his father said. “He survived this time, but no one knows what 50 (happen) next time.” This summer, we attended Dongzhou International Educational Exchange Summer Camp. Firstly, I'll tell you about our foreign teachers, Shrina and Rebecca, that are friendly and beautiful. We talked a lot about famous people, different kind of jobs and what we could say in a restaurant in England, etc. Besides, we teach some English students something about Chinese operas and kung fu. Late, we were excited to make out black tea. We put tea bags, milk and water into a big bowl, but then we stirred the tea until they became red and dark. Oh, it tasted well !
