As one of the most popular dishes in my hometown, Gong Bao Chicken is made of chicken breast, roasted peanuts, small pieces of tofu, dried chilies and onions. Cooked with sugar, salt and vinegar, it has a combination of sweet and sour taste, which is loved by both the young and the old. I would like to extend my sincere welcome to you to pay a visit to China, during which I will show you around. We’ll try this delicious dish and other famous local cuisines. Looking forward to hearing from you. (110 words) Yours, Li Hua 第二节: 读后续写 (满分 15 分) One possible version: People came from all over to see him perform. The neighbors brought their grandchildren and their relatives to my farm. On seeing the crowd, Samson began to jump. He even picked up a hat from the ground! When I asked him if he had any bad habits, he tried to pick my pocket! He surprisingly learned these tricks himself. I just asked him to do them and he understood. The relationship I have with my “baby” Samson has been an amazing experience. Every day is a fun day with this superstar horse. M: Then I don’t think you can swim today. I think it is supposed to stay this cold all day. (Text 2) M: Why will Mr. Rogers be out of the office next week? To take a holiday or go on business? W: Neither. He’s travelling to see his niece. She’s getting married next Tuesday. (Text 3) M: Let’s drop in here for a cup of coffee or something. W: I’m sorry, but I have an important meeting tomorrow and have to get up early. M: OK. Let’s go back to your place. (Text 4) M: When will the plane leave? W: It isn’t even at the airport yet. It should be here in an hour, so your flight will probably leave at two o’clock. M: That’s three hours late! (Text 5) M: This wine tastes a bit strange. W: It’s made from fruit. M: From fruit? I thought wine was made from rice. W: Well, this is a special wine. I made it myself. (Text 6) M: How often do you watch the news? W: Why do you want to know that? M: I have to do a survey for my class. I decided to find out how people of our age get their news. W: Oh. Well, actually I never watch the news on TV. M: Hmm. So how and where do you get the news? Do you read the newspaper?5 W: Not really. Well, once a month I read the China Daily in my English class, but it’s no longer news by the time I read it. M: How do you get your news, then? W: Usually, I get news reports sent to me on my mobile phone. I visit some news sites on the web. (Text 7) W: Excuse me. Do you think I can return these gloves? M: What’s the problem with them? W: They’re too small. M: Didn’t you try them on before you bought them? W: Well, as a matter of fact, I received them as a gift. M: OK, I see. I’m afraid I can’t give you a cash return, but you can exchange them. W: These gloves are $25, right? M: Yes. I’ll bring some gloves at the same price for you to choose from. W: Oh, that pair looks nice. May I try them on? M: They are $29. If you want that pair, it’ll be a bit extra. W: OK, I’ll take them. (Text 8) W: Hi, Charles. This is Eva calling. M: Hi, Eva. What’s up? W: I’ll leave for Beijing this Friday, but I don’t have anyone to take care of Snow. Could you help me out? M: How long will you stay in Beijing? W: For a week. I’ll return on the 28th of this month. Could you watch her for me? M: I’m planning to go to the beach next week. Is there anyone else who could do that for you? W: I don’t think so. I called Jennifer just now. She said she’s going to Paris next week. M: What about James? W: He’s sick. M: Well, then, I’ll help you out. I guess I can go to the beach some other time. W: Thank you so much, Charles. You’re so sweet. I’ll drop my dog at your place on my way to the airport the day after tomorrow. (Text 9) M: Hi, it’s me. I’m in the supermarket. I forgot the shopping list. Can you read it to me? W: Yes, it’s here on the fridge door. Let me see: some carrots, potatoes and tomatoes. M: OK. Shall I get a kilo of each? W: No, a kilo is too much. Just get half a kilo. M: OK. Do we need anything else? W: Yes, lots of things. Can you see if they’ve got any nice apples? I want some for the children’s lunches. M: Apples. How many? W: Get lots — enough for the whole week. Back to the list: orange juice, some milk and beer.6 M: Orange juice … beer … milk. W: Someone wrote chocolate on the list but don’t buy any. The boys eat too much chocolate. M: So you don’t want any chocolate? W: No. I think that’s enough. I’ll go shopping after I leave the office tomorrow. M: Great. I’ll be quick because there is no one here. See you in about half an hour. W: See you. Bye. (Text 10) Both sides of my family — my mum’s and my dad’s — are from a very small town south of Dublin. My father is the postman and my mum has a small shop where she sells things like milk, bread — you know, everyday things. My dad’s sisters all live in the village. Two of them went away to the States when they were in their twenties but they came back a few years ago. The other two were both nurses and they worked in Boston for about fifteen years. I went to see them a couple of times when I was a student. Anyway, they’ve both been back in Ireland since 1998. Uncle Sean — that’s my mum’s only brother — went to university in England where he studied business. Now he lives and works in Dublin for an international company but he has bought a small house near my mum and dad and he takes his family there every weekend.
