But she is not alone. Many people have this eating disorder. In the beginning of her story, Kessa is a normal 15-year-old. She is good at many things, especially dancing. She has danced for many years and loves it. One day her dance teacher tells her to continue eating right, but maybe lose a few pounds. Once Kessa hears this, she takes things too far. Instead of cutting down on snacks and junk food, she decides not to eat at all. She does not eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. She begins losing weight and becomes slimmer and slimmer. But she loses weight to a point where she is unhealthy. As her poor eating habits continue, her parents start getting as much help as possible to cure their beautiful daughter. But it is just as hard for Kessa’s parents to deal with her disorder as it is for her. Every day she exercises to lose more pounds and plans what and when she will eat. Her parents try everything, but Kessa decides not to have any fat on her body. Kessa’s doctor and parents finally take her to the hospital. She is now so thin that she can hardly walk. There, she is given good care. In the rest of the book, Kessa goes through a lot of trouble in order to cure her eating disorder. B TESCO has announced it is banning the sale of energy drinks to teenagers, and that the big move will begin in weeks. The supermarket has joined a host of major names banning teenagers from buying high caffeine, high-sugar drinks. The government indicates that the principal question to be determined is whether the purchasing restrictions will apply at the age of 16 or 18. Theresa May said the consultation was linked to the government’s childhood obesity( 肥 胖) strategy and said it was necessary to examine the consumption of energy drinks “often because they are sold at cheaper prices than soft drinks”. The principal reason for the ban is the high level of caffeine in the energy drinks, which has been linked to a string of health problems for children, including head and stomach aches as well as4 sleep problems. Energy drinks often also have higher levels of sugar than soft drinks. According to government figures, sugared energy drinks have 60% more calories and 65% more sugar than normal soft drinks and sugar is one of the largest causes of obesity. Jamie Oliver said he welcomed the ban on energy drink sales because “too many children are regularly using them to replace breakfast” and “teachers from across the country have told me how their lessons are disrupted because of these drinks”. A Downing Street source added that there is no evidence that energy drinks have any nutritional value in children’s diet. That accounts for the government’s action on measures to tackle childhood obesity and improve children’s health. The move is the latest step in an approach in relation to childhood obesity and health. According to European Food Safety Authority research, two-thirds of 10 to 16-year-olds regularly consume energy drinks, along with 18% of 3 to 10-year-olds. 24. What is the question to be decided for the government? A. The effect of energy drinks on health. B. The age limit for buying energy drinks. C. A total rise in the price of energy drinks. D. The time to carry out ban on energy drinks. 25. What problem may energy drinks lead to on children? A. Headaches and sleep problems. B. High blood pressure and stress. C. Fight and bad social relationship. D. Bad school academic performance. 26. What does the underlined word “That” refer to in Para.6? A. Measures should be taken about children obesity. B. Children have energy drinks instead of breakfast. C. Energy drinks have no nutritional value on children. D. We should limit the sugar content in energy drinks. C The European Parliament has approved a law banning a wide-range of single-use plastic items, such as straws and cotton buds by 2021. “Europe is setting new standards, paving the way(铺路) for the rest of the world,” the European Commission’s vice-president Frans Timmermans, who is responsible for sustainable development, said in a statement. The new plans come after the EC found that plastics make up more than 80% of marine litter, which has disastrous effects on wildlife and habitats. The EU parliament notes that because of its slow rate of breaking down, plastic residue(残余) has been found in marine species as well as fish and shellfish -- and therefore also makes its way into the human food chain. Under the new European law, tobacco companies will be required to cover the costs for the collection of cigarette butts. Manufacturers of fishing tools will also have to pay for the retrieval(找 回) of any plastic nets that have been left at sea. There’s also a new focus on further raising public awareness, where producers of items such as tobacco filters(滤嘴), plastic cups, and wet wipes will5 be required to clearly explain to users how to appropriately dispose of them. The European Commission first suggested the ban in May, which was approved by member states in October. China last year banned the import of 24 varieties of solid waste, including types of plastic and unsorted paper, putting pressure on Europe to deal with its own waste. The World Economic Forum estimates that there are about 150 million tons of plastic in the world’s seas. A study published in Science in 2015 suggested that between 5 and 13 million tons more are flowing into them every year. Research shows there will be more plastic than fish by weight in the world’s oceans by 2050, which has encouraged policymakers, individuals and companies into action. 27. What is the best title for the passage? A. Plastic drives fish out of seas. B. EU paves the way for the world. C. EU bans single-use plastic items. D. Plastic threatens marine life and human. 28. Under what circumstances(情况) has EU passed the new law? A. Plastic pollution has reached a disastrous degree. B. EU bears the responsibility for sustainable development. C. Plastic residue has been found in human bodies. D. Manufactures are prepared to collect used products. 29. Under the new EU law, what result will be unavoidable for plastic producers? A. Production will be reduced. B. Products will be more expensive. C. The staff will be larger. D. Factories will be moved out of EU. 30. What message is implied in Paragraph 4? A. China once urged EU to control plastic pollution. B. China’s ban on solid waste inspired EU. C. EU and China has signed relevant agreements. D. EU once exported plastic waste to China. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选 项。 How to Remember What You Read Reading is important. But the next step is making sure that you remember what you’ve read! 31 You may have just read the text, but the ideas, concepts and images(形象)may fly right out of your head. Economists say that the cost of living is the money that a family must pay 59 the necessities of life. For many years now, the cost of living has increased 60 (great), so the value of the dollar has decreased. No one fully understands why the cost of living keeps 61 (increase), but economists believe that workers and producers can make prices go up. As workers earn money, they have more money to spend, so they demand more goods. If there is a demand for certain goods, the prices of these goods go 62 . At the same time, if there’s a 63 (short) of goods, the prices also increase. Families need to know 64 happens to their money. It’s also influenced by behaviors they’ve learned, the ways people have reacted to their shyness, and life experiences they’ve had. The examples other people set can also play a role in whether a person learns to be shy or not. If the parents of a shy child are overly cautious or overprotective, it can teach the child to back away from situations that might be uncomfortable or unfamiliar. Many people want to reduce their shyness. But people who are naturally shy also have gifts that they might not appreciate in themselves. For example, because shy people may prefer listening to talking, they sometimes become really good listeners. People who are shy might also become sensitive to other people’s feelings and emotions. Because of their sensitivity and listening skills, many people with a shy personality are especially caring toward others, and interested in how others feel. People often consider them the finest friends. Overcoming shyness takes practice. People who are shy tend to give themselves fewer chances to practice social behaviors. It’s no wonder that people who shy away from socializing don’t feel as socially confident as people who are outgoing--they have less practice! The more you practice social behaviors, the easier they get, and the more natural they feel for you. Take slow, steady steps forward. Going slow is OK. But be sure to go forward. Stepping back from any situations that might trigger you to feel shy can reinforce shyness and keep it at a level that’s hard to get past. Build confidence by taking one small forward step at a time. Also, it’s OK to feel awkward. Everyone does sometimes. People who are shy are often afraid to feel awkward or uncomfortable. But don’t let that keep you from doing what you want. You might feel awkward asking your friends for help. That’s perfectly natural. Whether your friend says “yes” or “no” is out of your control. But not asking at all means you’ll never get the help. So go for it anyway!1 英语参考答案及听力原文 听力 1—5 AABCB 6—10 BCAAC 11—15 BABAC 16—20 BBACC 阅读理解 21—23 CBD 24—26 BAC 27—30 CABD 31—35 DAFGB 完形填空 36—40 BCBDC 41—45 ADCCB 46—50 BACAD 51—55 DBADA 语法填空 56. larger 57. it 58.
