This is our first trip to Thailand(泰国). All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.‎ March 27th Tuesday Bangkok is wonderful and surprising. The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.‎ March 30th Friday Our trip to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life—no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say "hello". Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. I feel good here and hope to be able to come back next year.‎ ‎21.How many days did the writer travel in Thailand probably?‎ A. Three. B. Seven. C. Ten. D. Nine.‎ ‎22. People in the village of Chiang Rai ‎ A. hope to live in the cities. B. like to speak English.‎ C. are friendly to others. D. live a very busy life. ‎ ‎23. What is the best title for the whole diary?‎ A. Travelling in Thailand B. The Outside World C. My First Travel D. My Trip to Chiang Mai B Like most kids, when I was growing up I rode my bike almost every day. I was free enough to ride it around the back roads of the countryside in Indiana. But with my first car, I made many friends and discovered plenty of new roads. The bicycle couldn’t hold my attention any more.‎ All of that changed last summer when I bought a used bike. After a bit of repair at the local bike shop, I began to ride it and learned more about my neighborhood every day. During the time I’ve found again many of the great life lessons.‎ Bicycles are freedom. Bicycles allow you to be free to go around your small corner of the world at you like. You’re free to do what you like. You can explore(探索), ride ‎ down every side street and stop to smell the roses.‎ Cities are becoming more bicycle friendly. As a person that grew up in the country, it was difficult for me to ride in the city. Luckily many cities have made their communities more bicycle friendly, including dedicated (专用的)bike lanes, bike trails, bike share programs and plenty of bike racks for parking.‎ You’ll see your neighborhood from a whole new perspective(视角). You’ll quickly find out all the character your neighborhood has. You’ll notice all the great homes, buildings and natural beauty making your community so different from others.‎ Bicycling can be great exercise. With the wind in your hair and plenty of places to visit, you’ll find that bicycling will quickly become a fun pleasing chance to get exercise.‎ ‎24.Why did the writer lose interest in bikes according to Paragraph 1?‎ A. He was growing up. B. He had a new car. ‎ C. He made new friends. D. He found many other roads.‎ ‎25.What can you infer from Paragraph 4?‎ ‎ A. It’s difficult to ride bikes. ‎ B. Riding in the country is more interesting. ‎ ‎ C. People are encouraged to ride bikes in the city.‎ ‎ D. You can put your bike anywhere you like in the city.‎ ‎26.What advantages can you get from bicycling according to the writer? ‎ ‎ A. You don’t have to buy a car. ‎ B. You can become very happy and strong. ‎ C. You can make your community more beautiful.‎ D. You can spend less money in bicycling than driving cars.‎ ‎27.What’s the main idea of this passage?‎ A. Riding bikes can make people rich. ‎ B. People in the city don’t like riding bikes any more.‎ C. There are many roads in the countryside of Indiana.‎ D. The writer has found many life lessons about bikes. ‎ C ‎ Do you hope to enter Tsinghua(清华) University? If so, you’d better be able to swim or be ready to learn swimming and pass a swim test, because all the students of Tsinghua University are asked to learn how to swim from this year. Liu Bo, head of the university's sports science and physical education division, said this last Monday and this decision was most supported by Qiu Yong, president of this university.‎ ‎ The university will organize a swimming test for all the new students in September, and those who fail to swim at least 50 meters any way they like will be asked to take a mandatory course (必修课) throughout their studies so that they are able to swim by the ‎ time they graduate, or the university won't give them a diploma (文凭), Liu said.‎ ‎ Many old students of this famous university had to meet the swimming challenge in its history. Liang Shiqiu, the famous writer who entered Tsinghua University in 1915, once failed the swimming test before his graduation. He had to do his best at the make-up examination(补考). Luckily his second test got a pass from the head of the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education.‎ ‎ Why is the university connecting swimming ability with degrees? As a living skill, swimming is very important for students in the long run, since it is helpful in improving students' endurance (耐力) and it usually does less harm to joints and muscles as a water sport," said Liu Bo.‎ ‎“Although Tsinghua has paid much attention to sports in its long history, fewer students are exercising in their spare time regularly,” Liu said. “It’s time to take serious action to ask students to exercise more to build up their bodies on campus.”‎ ‎28.What must a student do before graduating from Tsinghua University?‎ A. Pass a swim test. B. Learn sports science.‎ C. Show interest in swimming. D. Know the old students.‎ ‎29.What’s the purpose for the writer to talk of Liang Shiqiu?‎ ‎ A. To show he was famous. ‎ B. To introduce his works. ‎ ‎ C. To advise others not to meet the challenge. ‎ D. To support the topic with this example.‎ ‎30.Why does Tsinghua University pay so much attention to swimming?‎ ‎ A. It is a water sport. B. It has a long history.‎ ‎ C. It is not very harmful. D. It can make students stronger.‎ ‎31.What can you infer about the students in Tsinghua University from the last paragraph?‎ A. They like other sports except swimming. ‎ B. They are poor in health because they don’t exercise.‎ C. More and more students will attend swimming class.‎ D. Fewer students would like to go to Tsinghua University.‎ D Recently, we’ve been talking about how we need better teachers. There’s no doubt that a great teacher can help in a student’s learning but here’s what some new studies are also showing: We need better parents.‎ Every three years, the organization called O.E.C.D. organizes exams as part of the Program for International Student Assessment(评估), or PISA, which tests 15-year-olds on their abilities to deal with real problems. America’s 15-year-olds have not done as well as students in Singapore, Finland and Shanghai in the PISA exams.‎ To better understand the reasons, the PISA team, starting with four countries in 2006, and then adding 14 more in 2009, went to the parents of 5,000 students. They interviewed them about how they raised their kids and then compared it with the test results for each of those years. Two weeks ago, the PISA team published the main finding of its study.‎ Fifteen-year-olds whose parents often read books with them during their first year of primary school(小学) get much higher scores in PISA 2009 than students whose parents don’t often read with them or not at all. Parents’ concern for their children is strongly connected with better results in PISA.‎ According to Schleicher, the leader of the team, just asking your children how their school day was and showing great interest in their learning can help a lot. It is something every parent can do, no matter what their education level is.‎ The study found that getting parents concerned about(关心) their children’s learning at home is more powerful than parents attending parent-teacher meetings, volunteering in classrooms, taking part in money-raising, and showing up at back-to-school nights.‎ To be sure, nothing can replace a good teacher. But let’s stop putting the whole duty on teachers. We also need better parents. Better parents can make teaching more beneficial(有利的).‎ ‎32.What can we learn about the organization O.E.C.D?‎ A. It tests teenagers’ learning skills. ‎ B. It calls for better teachers.‎ C. It organizes PISA exams every 3 years. ‎ D. It compares parents from different countries.‎ ‎33. Why does the PISA team interview some parents?‎ A. To understand students better. ‎ B. To get along well with parents.‎ C. To help students with bad test results. ‎ D. To find out why students have different test results.‎ ‎34. According to the study, parents are advised to __________.‎ A. try to search for better teachers B. put the whole duty on teachers ‎ C. care about their children’s school life D. ask their children to read more books ‎35. What’s the best title for the passage?‎ A. Better Parents Are Needed B. Better Teachers Are Appreciated C. A Study by the PISA Team D.
