Unit 7 Seasons Comic strip and Welcome to the unit I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:‎ ‎1. know some expressions about different weather; ‎ ‎2. talk about students’ favourite seasons.‎ ‎ ‎ II. Teaching contents ‎1. New words and phrases: Words: rainy, snowy, bet, foggy, look cool, with nothing on ‎2. New structures: Which season do you like best?‎ ‎ It’s the best time to play football outside.‎ ‎ Which is your favourite season?‎ III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty Describe different kinds of weather in different seasons.‎ IV. Teaching procedures A Comic strip Step 1 Lead-in ‎ ‎1. Free talk Enjoy some pictures and think about “What is cool?”. Encourage students to think about and talk about the different meanings of “cool”.‎ ‎ When I am very hot and thirsty, cool is a glass of juice with ice. ‎ ‎ When I get up in the early morning, the cool wind can make me feel cool.‎ ‎ When I see the picture of Doctor Du, I can’t help shouting “cool”!‎ ‎ People who are so strong are very cool. ‎ ‎ A person who is clever at math is very cool. ‎ ‎ A person who remembers things well is very cool. ‎ ‎ A student who is good at all subjects at school is very cool.‎ ‎2. Discussion Show some pictures and talk about the topic “How can we be cool?”. Encourage students to think of more ‎ ideas about how to be cool.‎ ‎ Maybe we can work hard to have some excellent or different skills.‎ ‎ Maybe we can learn to sing “hip-pop” and pop dance. It’s really cool! ‎ ‎ Maybe we can dress up in strange and special clothes to make us so strange and so cool. ‎ ‎ Maybe we can get stronger and taller because a strong man will make others feel cool.‎ ‎【设计意图】Brain storm “What is cool?”和 free talk “How can we be cool” 引出本单元重点词汇和句型,导入新课,快速进入英语语境。‎ Step 2 Presentation ‎1. Listen to the tape and then answer the following questions What does Eddie want to do?‎ Is it cold today?‎ Does Eddie look cool in the clothes?‎ 3‎ ‎2. Read aloud by following the tape ‎3. Fill in the blanks Eddie wants Hobo to ______ him his clothes because he feels ______. Eddie thinks he looks ______ in a suit. Hobo laughs at Eddie and ______ he will ______ cool and ______ cool without ________ on. ‎ ‎4. Act out Work in pairs and act out the dialogue. Show some pictures and learn some new words. ‎ sunàsunny , cloudàcloudy , windàwindy , rainàrainy , fogàfoggy , snowàsnowy ‎2. Read and try to recite the new words.‎ ‎3. Watch and answer Students watch the video carefully and then answer the question “How many kinds of weather are there in the video?”‎ ‎4. Listen and answer Listen to Amy and Simon’s conversation and answer these questions.‎ ‎ Which season does Simon like best? Why?‎ ‎ Which season does Amy like best? Why?‎ ‎【设计意图】通过一段简短易学的关于天气的儿歌视频,巩固所学的词汇。‎ Step 3 Practice ‎ ‎1. Encourage students to think of more words about weather.‎ T: What other weather can you think of?‎ ‎2. Discussion ‎(1) Find some proper words to describe each season ‎ (2) Discuss what we can or cannot do in each season ‎ What can/cannot we do on these days?‎ What should/shouldn’t we do on these days?‎ ‎3. Talk about students’ favourite seasons and weather. Work in pairs and make up their own dialogues.‎ ‎—What is your favourite weather and why? ‎ ‎—I like … because …‎ ‎【设计意图】通过说出图片中的物体引出表达天气的形容词,让学生对表达天气的形容词的构词规律有直观的认识。通过讨论和图片提示,学生知道更多的天气的表达,拓宽了词汇量、丰富了知识,并能将新学知识在下面的教学设计中加以运用。‎ 3‎ Step 4 Activity Talk show time.‎ Play the role of a weather reporter to make a weather report.‎ ‎【设计意图】学生通过做天气预报的主持人再次通过口头表达,再次在情景中操练所学的关于天气和季节的生词,现学活用。训练学生的口头语言组织和表达能力,并拓展学生的思维。‎ V. Homework ‎1. Recite the new words.‎ ‎2. Read the two dialogues.‎ ‎3. Talk about different seasons with your classmates.‎ 3‎
