MaryinSorbonnemetalecturer,PierreCurie,thatisherlaterhusband.Thetwoofthemoftencarryoutradioactivematerialresearchtogetherwithtonsofindustrialwaste,becausethetotalradioactivityoftheoreisstrongerthanthe radioactivityoftheuraniumitcontains.In1898,theCuriecouplemadealogicalinferenceaboutthisphenomenon:asphalturaniumoremustcontainsomeunknownradioactivecomponents,theradioactivityisfargreaterthantheuraniumradioactivity.OnDecember26th,Mrs.Curiepublishedtheideaoftheexistenceofthisnewsubstance.  Inthefollowingyears,theCuriecoupleconstantlyrefiningtheradioactivecomponentsoftheasphalturaniumore.Throughunremittingefforts,theyfinallysucceededinseparatingtheradiumchlorideanddiscoveredtwonewchemicalelements:polonium(Po)andradium(Ra).Becauseoftheirdiscoveryandresearchonradioactive,theCurieandHenryBeckellerwonthe1903NobelPrizeinPhysics,andCuriewasthefirstwomantowintheNobelPrizeinhistory.Eightyearslater,in1911,MadameCuriewontheNobelPrizeinChemistrybecauseofthesuccessfulseparationofradium.Surprisingly,afterMrs.CuriewontheNobelPrize,shedidnotapplyforapatentforrefiningpure radium,andmadeitpublic,whicheffectivelypromotedthedevelopmentofradiochemistry.MarieCuriehadalongaffectionwithherhusbandsstudentPaulLongintheyears,andtheincidentwasintroubleinFrance.1911ParisNewsintheNovember4titlelovestory:CurieandLangZhanWanprofessor,rumorsPierrestillalive,LangandMarieCuriehaveclosecontacts.Einsteinsviewofthismatteristhatiftheyareinlove,whowillnotcontrol,hewrotealettertotheCurieonNovember23,1911,tocomfortthetable.
