The text is most likely to appear ______. A. on the Internet B. in a novel C. in a magazine D. in a newspaper B For most of her life, Suanne Laqueur’s passion for storytelling was shown on the dance floor. Although Laqueur began writing at a young age, dancing always took center stage. She majored in dance and theater at Alfred University and taught at her mother’s dance studio in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, for years. But when her mother was ready to retire and an opportunity opened for Laqueur to take over the studio, she realized she had no interest in taking on the business side of her art: “Owning a studio is a lot of work—financially, logistically. I love the teaching, the choreographing(编舞), the staging, but I didn’t want to own it.”Yet Laqueur’s disinterest in running the studio changed when she became a self-published author. In the fall of 2013, she decided to pursue Self-publishing as a way of sharing her first completed novel with friends and family. During the process, she realized that following her true passion—telling stories through writing—made the business of the art worthwhile, and owning that business meant she could direct her writing career however she chose. Starting with her second self-published novel she began investing more time in marketing and building her audience. Her investment paid off. Since 2014, Laqueur, now 49, has self-published six novels, which collectively have hundreds of ratings and reviews on Goodreads. Her 2016 novel An Exaltation of Larks stole the show at the 25th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards, topping more than 2,300 entries to win the grand prize. “You have to write the most truthful story to you, and I think self-publishing allows that freedom,’ she says. “If you work with traditional publishing, it’s more about what’s marketable, There are trade-offs, which everyone will tell you, but by self-publishing I have control of the book, I have control of the story, and I’m cool with that.” 24. From Paragraph 2,we can learn that Laqueur _______. A. was a part-time writer when she was young B. didn’t like teaching dancing in fact C. wanted to own a publishing house D. was interested in running her mother’s studio 25. Which of the following can best replace the phrase “stole the show” in Paragraph 4? A. became a failure. B. was shown to people. C. got all the attention. D. was accidentally stolen. 27. What can be inferred from what Laqueur’s said? A. Self-publishing will replace traditional publishing. B. She will never use traditional publishing. C. Traditional publishing only focuses on the market. D. She enjoys the way of self-publishing.C Good news for coffee and tea drinkers: No more wasting time and energy waiting for the perfect cup. Using patented Heatworks’ Ohmic Array Technology, the DUO Smart Untethered Carafe (玻璃水瓶) has the power to heat or cool water to the exact degree while you pour. With its functionality, convenience and stylish appearance, the DUO looks like quite the game changer. So how does it work? The DUO advocate 99 percent energy efficiently and an advanced water filtration system created by heat works CEO Jerry Callahan, who wanted to create a heating system without using metal heating elements. Unsustainable and imperfect metal heating parts have been used for heating for the past 100 years and carry the risk of rusting(生锈). Callahan felt it was time for an upgrade heating systems, and the Ohmic Array Technology was born. Using electrical currents passed through the water itself rather than separate heated elements to transfer heat into the water. Ohmic Array cuts out a whole step in the process. The DUO is not yet available for purchase, but you can learn more Information and sign up for the release updates on the Heatworks website. 28. To apply for a patent B. To introduce a product C. To report a product launch D. To share a technology D Wood has many great characteristics that make it the perfect building material. It is cheap, durable(耐用的),easily available, and most importantly, environmentally sustainable. The one thing it is not transparent(透明的). Now thanks to a team of scientists at Stockholm's KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the material may even be able to add that feature to its already impressive list. Lead researcher Dr. Lars Berglund said he was inspired to create the transparent wood after learning how Japanese researchers had developed a see-through paper for use in flexible display screens for electronic devices. The team began by pulling out the wood's lignin( 木 质 素 ). The lignin-free wood was then dipped into a polymer(聚合物)and baked at a temperature of 158F for four hours. The result was a hybrid product that was not only stronger and lighter than the original wood but also, almost transparent. The researchers were able to adjust the level of transparency by varying the amount of the polymer injected and also by changing the thickness of the wood. While scientists have previously created a see-through wood for small-scale applications like computer chips, the transparent wood is the first one being considered for large scale applications. The researchers, who revealed their findings in Biomacromolecules on April 11, picture using the transparent wood in buildings to allow for more natural light, or to create windows that let in the desired amount of light without sacrificing privacy. Wood that allows light to pass through could lead to a brighter future for homes and buildings. Berglund also thinks the wood could play a significant role in the design of solar panels. The semi-transparent material would be able to keep light longer and give it more time to interact with the conductor, thus resulting in better solar efficiency. Additionally, substituting the currently used glass with this new product would help solar energy manufacturers improve their carbon footprint and lower the cost. They are now experimenting with ways to scale up the manufacturing process so that the transparent material is cost-effective to make and easy to use. 32. What does the underlined part "that feature" in Paragraph 1 refer to? A. Cheapness. B. Durability. C. Sustainability. D. Transparency. 33. Which of the following is not the process in which the transparent wood is made?A. Dip the wood into a polymer. B. Reduce the amount of the polymer. C. Make the wood lignin-free. D. Bake the wood for some time. 34. Which of the following is true according to the text? A. Berglund got the idea of transparent wood while making paper. B. Varying the amount of the polymer changes the wood's hardness. C. The cost of making the transparent wood still needs to be cut down. D. The transparent wood would be used only for homes and buildings. 35. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The bright future of the transparent wood. B. The wood's role in the design of solar panels. C. The disadvantages of the currently used glass. D. Solar energy manufacturers' carbon footprint. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项 Actions speak louder than words. A smile says,“I like you.
