九、书面表达(满分 20 分)
I t is reported that some countries make it a law to forbid punishing children, which aroused heated
discussion on the Internet. Is it okay for parents to punish their children? Opinions on this vary from person
to person.
People in favor of punishing children assume th at it is a common means of education, which can put
an immediate stop to bad behavior. Moreover, through proper punishment, children can learn what is wrong
and unacceptable.
Others, however, argue that punishment can hurt kids both physically and mentally. When punished,
childr en feel no respect from parents, resulting in their loss of confidence over time. What’s worse, afrai d
of being punished, children may tell lies to esc ape being caught.
On my personal note, I firmly believe that punishing is ineffective and harmful. Communicating with
children regularly is a better choice for parents. Reward their desirable behavior, and they can learn to tell
right from wrong. (126 words)

听力录音稿
Text 1
M: Dinner is on me tonight. Thanks for getting me that job I wanted.
W: It was nothing, really. And you always look after my cat when I’m away.
Text 2
W: Did you hear? The band U2 is coming to town this Saturday night! I can’t wait to buy tickets.
M: That’s cool. I saw a movie about them once. But unfortunately, I’m going to see a basketball game that
night.
Text 3
M: Is your meal cold, too, or is it just mine? I’m going to return it.
W: So that’s why you’re not eating it? I thought they got your order wrong, or there was a hair in it.
Text 4
M: You’d better book your plane ticket soon. It was $700 yesterday, and it went up $300 more today. I just
bought it.
W: I bought mine last week. I got it for $500 cheaper than you.
Text 5
W: Look at these shoes. They would be great for wearing to work. And these, they look great, too. I need a
good pair for the gym.
M: Maybe for your birthday. You could wear the ones I bought you last week before that.
Text 6
W: Tom, it’s your turn to talk to Auntie Maria. She says she has to go to the market in half an hour, so she
needs to get off the phone soon.
M: Can you talk with her a little longer, Lily? I’m almost done with my meal. I have to catch the school bus
in fifteen minutes, so I need to get all ready first. Give me five minutes.
W: Fine. But my taxi picks me up at 8:45. That’s in ten minutes. I also need to be ready. Hurry up!
Text 7
W: There’s no parking anywhere.
M: Don’t worry. We’ll find somewhere to park in the end.
W: I really don’t like driving in the city. It makes me anxious.
M: Really? I love it. There are so many interesting people and things to see.
W: Is that a parking space? By that entrance to the mall?[来源:学§科§网][
M: Yes, but it’s only for trucks.
W: Why did you choose a restaurant in the city?
M: I wanted to do something special. Hey, what about that parking lot?[来源:Z*xx*k.Com]
W: 25-minute parking only. Why don’t we just park underground?
M: It’s $14 per hour. No way.
W: There’s one, on the street by the music store! We did it!
M: Feel better now?
W: Much calmer.
Text 8
W: Do you have a group for your English project yet?
M: It’s just Tyler and I. Wh at about you?
W: I’m with Karen. Do you two want to join together?
M: Sure. What do you think we should do for the project?
W: The first thing we have to do is pick a story we like.
M: I like the famous love story, Romeo and Juliet.
W: Good idea! Now we have to decide what we want to do. The teacher said we can do anything we want.
M: Let’s do a performance. Nobody else will choose to do one.
W: You’re right! The teacher will like that we are being creative, too.
M: Right! So how often should we meet?
W: On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after school, and once on weekends.
M: Sounds great!
Text 9
M: Hello, reservation for William Hurley. We’re staying in the poolside room.
W: Yes, sir. Oh, we have a better room now. Do you want to change the poolside room for it?
M: That would be great!
W: Certainly. We can put you in the garden view room on the 1st floor, or the ocean view room on the 15th.
M: The ocean view sounds beautiful, but my wife is scared of heights. We’ll take the garden view room.
W: We just have to make up your room, if you don’t mind waiting. You can wait on the sofas, go for a
swim, or even play tennis.
M: I think we’ll just take a seat. How far is the opera house?
W: Just two blocks away. The museum is about a 30-minute walk, or a short taxi ride away.
M: We’re going to the zoo in about two hours. Can you call us a taxi for that time?
W: Yes, sir. And before I forget, breakfast is every morning from 7:00 to 10:00.
M: Great. Can you give us a wake-up call for 8:30, please?
W: Sure.
Text 10
The great white shark is one big, scary fish. Even though attacks are quite rare, they do happen. Most
of the great white sharks live in places like Hawaii and South Africa, because of the perfect water
temperature there. But as temperatures rise, more sharks are swimming to North America. There were more
shark attacks in California last year than anywhere else in the world. It’s not as bad as it sounds, though.
Bears kill more people per year than sharks. Surprisingly, deer kill the most people, because they cause car
accidents. Great white sharks usually grow from 15 to 20 feet long. The largest ones can grow to as long as
25 feet, but there are very few of them. 70 years ago, a fisherman said he caught a 30-foot shark, but it
wasn’t true. So what should you do if you see a great white shark? Don’t move. If you can, back up against
a rock. If you have no other choice, hit it on the nose or eyes. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
