Some IT companies have set up social media platforms(社交媒体平台)for children under
the age of 18. I won’t use these platforms. In fact, I’m strongly against them.
Firstly, many teenagers don’t know how to protect themselves on the Internet. They may give
away personal information, like names, selfies(自拍), phone numbers and home addresses by
accident. Then it’ll be convenient to the criminals. They may steal the information and do some
bad things. For example, they may pretend(假装)to make friends with you and then threaten(威
胁)you so that you give them money. Teenagers are often too young to judge(判断)who’s worth
trusting or not.
Secondly, many young people lack(缺乏)self-discipline(自律). If they meet someone online
who likes playing video games, for example, they may become addicted(上瘾)to gaming, too. In
the long run, this school performance will be negatively(负面的)affected.
For these reasons, I will never use social media before I’m 18 years old. As teenagers, we
should just focus on our study and make friends with people around us. Please say no to social
media.

A group of boys were playing a game around a tall tree. They decided to see who could get to
the top of the tree first. Their mothers were sitting not far away, watching their children as they
played.
One of the climbers was an 8-year-old boy named David. He was the shortest child in the
group. Nobody thought he would win the competition.
Then the game started. All of the boys tried their best to climb as high as they could. They all
made it halfway up the tree before David did, but he reached the top of the tree fastest in the end.
David's mother was proud of his son. She asked him, “David, how did you manage to reach
the top of the tree so quickly?"
" It was easy. " David said, “The other children kept looking down as they climbed. When
they came to realize how high they were, they got scared and were afraid of falling down. I,
however, looked only up. When I saw how close I was, I kept going higher and higher until I
reached the top. "
In fact, in life, it is true that if we just keep going forward without looking back, we are more
likely to reach our goals.

The coldest months of winter have arrived. But Woodchurch High School in the
UK has had a winter coat rule. It has banned (禁止)students from wearing expensive
coats after Christmas.
This is to stop “poverty-shaming(贫困羞辱)” among its students. Coat brands like
Canada Goose and Moncler sell for £1,000(8, 674yuan), a cost that only the richest
families are able to afford. Poor students feel left out when they see others wear these
coats.
“These coats cause a lot of unfairness,” head teacher Rebekah Phillips told CNN.
“They stigmatize(使……感到羞愧) students and parents who are less rich.”
Most parents are happy with the rule, saying that school shouldn't be a place where
students’ economic(经济上的) background distracts(使分心) them from learning. Small
changes like this have led low-income(低收入的) students to become busier in school.
But some people don't agree with it. They ask why children shouldn't be allowed to
wear clothes that keep them warm in winter. “Each child should be allowed to choose
what he or she wants to wear,” Jillian Roberts, a teacher at the University of Victoria in
Canada said.
But Woodchurch isn’t the first school to take such steps. In May, a UK primary
school didn’t allow to bring expensive pencil cases. The US state of New Mexico even
passed a law saying that it is against the law to separate or humiliate (羞辱)a child who
can't pay for his or her lunch at school.
