What means of transportation(交通) do you like?
Here is an interview about students’ favourite
means of transportation from Westminster School in
L o n d o n .
Students have different ideas.
I find it’s hard to answer this question.
I am afraid of any kind of transportation, so
it’s hard to choose. If I have to, I’d choose
the plane. It’s quick and relaxing, and we
can get food and drink on the plane.
I like buses. On a long trip, I can meet
different people and talk with them. The trip
is interesting and I can see the countryside.

Anna
I don’t like taking trains. There are always
problems with trains. They’re often late. I use
my car and always get where I’m going in time.
Answering this question is very difficult
because I like travelling by bicycle, by plane, by
boat, by car… But I like walking best. I enjoy
walking.
My favourite way of traveling is my
computer mouse. It is the fastest mean of

few minutes, speak to people from all over the
world, and look up(查阅) things quickly.

“How are you?” is a nice question. It’s a friendly way
that people in the US greet each other. However, “How are
you?” is also an unusual(不寻常的) question. It's a
question that often doesn’t need an exact answer. The
person who asks “how are you?” hopes to hear the answer
“Fine”, even if you are not fine. The reason is that “How
are you?” isn’t really a question and “Fine” isn’t really an
answer. They are simply other ways of saying “Hello” or
“Hi”.
People don’t say exactly what they mean sometimes.
For example, when someone asks the other person “Do
you agree?”, even if the other person has a “No” answer, it
isn’t polite to disagree so strongly, so the other
B
person might say “I’m not sure.” It’s a nicer way to say
that you don’t agree with someone. People also don’t say
exactly what they are thinking when they want to end
talking with others. For example, phone talks finish when
one person says “I have to go now.” This shows that the
person who wants to hang up(挂断电话) simply doesn’t
want to talk any more, but it isn’t polite to say that.
Actually, it’s a kind of excuse, but it’s more polite, and it
doesn’t hurt the other person.
All of these are parts of the game of language. In some
cases, it plays a key part in communication(沟通). If people
don’t follow the rules of the game, misunderstanding will
possible happen, communication will possibly fail, and
many other issues(问题) may follow.
( )26. When a person says “How are you?” to you,
the person is ________.
A. saying “Hello” or “Hi” to you

( )28. If you want to end a talk with your friend on the
