读写综合
In Britain, you may often hear “Drop in anytime.” or
“Come to see me soon.”, but you can’t really do that. People
say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to
telephone before visiting someone at home. If you receive a
written invitation(邀请函) to an event that says “RSVP”,
you should reply(回复) to let the person who sends the
invitation know whether or not you plan to go.
You should never accept an invitation unless you
really plan to go. You may refuse(拒绝) by saying, “Thank
you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come.” If, after
accepting, you are unable to go, be sure to tell those who are
expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there.
Although it is not necessary for you to give a gift to your
host, it is polite to do so, especially if you have been invited
for a meal. Flowers, chocolate, or a small gift are all
appropriate(合适的). A thank-you note or telephone call
after the visit is also a polite and appropriate way to express
your appreciation(感谢) for the invitation.

In China, it’s not polite to open the gifts in front of the
guests.
第四步:运用and, but, or, because, first, then等连接词连
接句子,并注意句型多样化。
III. 实战演练
Dear Tom,
There are many differences between Chinese and
American culture, such as the ways of meeting, greeting and
opening gifts. American people often shake hands or hug
each other when they meet. Then they talk about things like
weather or sports.
But in China, people often say hello to each
other or nod their heads when they meet. And they
sometimes talk about their families.
When people receive gifts in America, it’s polite
to open the gifts in front of everyone. In China, they
don’t do that in front of the guests, because it’s rude.
They usually open the gifts after the guests leave.
I hope they will be useful for you.
Yours,
Li Hua
