Teaching Aims
1.Knowledge aims:
(1) The students can master the usage of the important words “young, old, beautiful,
thin, clever” .
(2) The students can use the pattern, “Is she...? Yes, she is./No, she isn’t.” to
communicate with each other in different situations.
2.Ability aims:
(1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
(2) To improve the students’ ability of communication.
3.Emotion aims:
(1) To arouse and enhance the students’ interest of learning English.
(2) To cultivate harmonious relationships and cooperative spirit among students, and
teach them to describe people and make new friends.
Key and difficult points
1. Key points: Students can master the usage of the key words and key sentence
pattern and make sure they can use them well in different situations.
2. Difficult points: Students will have more confidence in learning English and not be
afraid of speaking English. They can also use the words and sentences they’ve learned
to communicate with each other in their daily life.
Teaching Methods: Task-based teaching method, Communicative teaching approach.
Learning Method: Work in pairs.
Teaching tools: real objects, cards or pictures, power point and so on.
Teaching Steps
Step 1: Warming up and Revision
1. Greetings:
T: Hello, boys and girls!
S: Hello, Miss Zhang!
T: How are you?
S: I’m fine. Thank you. And you?
T: I’m fine, too. Sit down, please.
2. Sing a song: Five little friends.
3. Evaluation:
T: Firstly, I want to divide you into three groups. Group one, two, three. Each group
has a bus. Today we are going to make new friends. You can take your new
friends to travel. Ready?
S: Go!
4. Lead-in
T: I have many new things. Can you tell me what do you have? Do you have
something new?
S: I have a new ruler.
T: Anyone else? What do you have?
S: I have a new friend.
T: Perfect. I have a new friend, too. Today we’re going to learn “Unit 4 I have a
new friend.”
Purpose: Let students to pay attention to the English class and be interested in English
learning.
Step 2: Presentation and Practice
1. New teaching
(1) I’ll present the main sentence pattern, “Is he/she...?” on the blackboard and let the
students to practice by using their familiar words.
(2)Then I’ll add a new word “young” to this sentence pattern and let students to
practice in pairs or work in groups one by one. And learn the other words or in the
same way.
2. Play a game. “What’s missing?”
3. Then I’ll play the tape recorder and let students to listen carefully with the given
questions.
4. Read after the tape loudly.
5. Role playing: Practice the dialogue in groups
6. After reading, I’ll ask the students if they have any question. If they do have, I’ll let
them to try to deal with the difficulties by themselves first. But if they can’t, I’ll help
them.
Purpose: Let students to master the words and sentence pattern, and use it in different
situations.
Step 3: Consolidation
Role-playing: I’ll present several pictures such as Yao Ming, Yang Liwei and Bing
Xin, and let students to talk about their favorite person in groups by using the words
or phrases they learned today. And I’ll ask several groups to come to the front and
show their performance. Then I’ll check their behavior and praise the students who
perform well.
Purpose: Let students to use English in their daily life and cultivate the cooperative
spirit among students.
Step 4: Sum up and Homework
1. Sum up: I’ll invite one of the students to be our little teacher to summarize what
we’ve learned in this lesson and how to use the sentence pattern in our daily life. Then
we’ll make a summary together.
Purpose:Students can check whether they master the knowledge or not.
2. Homework:
(1). Do a survey of your classmates' friends. “Is she/he...?”.
(2). Write a short composition.
