Step 1 Lead-in
General introduction:
The Task is divided into three steps and each step is preceded with a skills building activity.
Through the three steps, you will learn how to complete a quiz, how to listen for emphasis and how
to use information from more than one source.
Step2 Prediction
Skills building 1completing a quiz
1.What should you do when completing a quiz?
1) Before you fill in your answer, read the question a second time and be sure you understand
what is being asked.
2) Write you answer in a complete sentence. You do not want the judge to misunderstand your
answer because you have left out some words.
3) Read both the question and the answer again. Be sure that you have answered the whole
question and that you have spelt everything correctly.
Step 3 First listening
1.Ask the students to guess what questions will be asked in the radio program and what the
answers will be.
2.Listen to the tape for the first time, answer Questions 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10.
Step4 Second listening
Listen again to check your answers.
1.Who are the ‘fathers of modern film’?
2.When we watch a film, what are we actually seeing?
3.Which city was the first film made in?
4.Name three differences between old and modern films.
5.Where did the music audiences heard during silent films come from?
6.What was the title of the first ‘talk film’?
7.What was the title of the first color film?
Step5 Listen to Part B and answer Questions 7, 11, 12
Listen to another radio programme in Part B
This time you will listen to some information about Hollywood, and you can use the
information to answer some of the remaining questions on the quiz.
1.What is a studio?
We use the word ‘studio’ to describe a company with sound stages. The word refers to both the
company and the place where it makes its film.

Third, switch roles.
Finally, present the dialogues.
