Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Purposes
Step 2: While-reading
(23 min)
Scanning
(10 min)
Have the students scan
Paragraph 1 and do the
T or F exercises. After
that, get students to
Scan Paragraph 1
and do the T or F
exercises.
To help the students
to comprehend the
details of this text.
2
generalize the major
features of cats
mentioned in the first

Have the students scan
Paragraph 2 and fill in
the blanks in a table
showing the basic
information about the
experiment.
Scan Paragraph 2
and fill in the blanks.
Summary
(8 min)
Review the basic
aspects of summarizing
news and give an

the first column of the
slide necessary for
students to fill in the
blanks of a possible
version of the summary
on the right column.

to summarize the
texts.
Step3: Post-reading
(10 min)
A Model
Parliamentary
Debate
Have students discuss
on the issue of
experimenting on
animals and get them to
form two groups on the
sides of both the
government and the
opposition. Four
representatives from
each side should
choose their own roles
in the assembly to
deliver their views in
the debate in around
30-40 seconds per
person.
Establish their own
views on animal
testing and
eloquently deliver
their arguments.
To help students get
familiar with British
parliamentary
debating system and
what’s more
important, to further
comprehend the very
essence of the
experiment narrated
in the text: testing on
animals, thus
allowing them to
have a chance to
voice their opinions
on this issue
critically.
Step 4: Assignment
(2 min)
Write an argumentative essay about your views on experimenting on animals in around
120-150 words.
