These colourful and sweet jewels from British Columbia's fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.‎ Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants (抗氧化物质). The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃), they are so delicious who cares? However, they are rich in vitamin C.‎ When combined with berries or slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice ‎ cream”. For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer.‎ If you have a_juicer,_you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “softserve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children's party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.‎ ‎24.What does the author seem to like about cherries?‎ A.They contain protein.‎ B.They are high in vitamin A.‎ C.They have a pleasant taste.‎ D.They are rich in antioxidants.‎ ‎25.Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas?‎ A.To make them smell better.‎ B.To keep their colour.‎ C.To speed up their ripening.‎ D.To improve their nutrition.‎ ‎26.What is “a_juicer” in the last paragraph?‎ A.A dessert. B.A drink.‎ C.A container. D.A machine.‎ ‎27.From which is the text probably taken?‎ A.A biology textbook. B.A health magazine.‎ C.A research paper. D.A travel brochure.‎ C While famous foreign architects are invited to lead the designs of landmark buildings in China such as the new CCTV tower and the National Center for the Performing Arts, many excellent Chinese architects are making great efforts to take the center stage.‎ Their efforts have been proven fruitful. Wang Shu, a 49yearold Chinese architect, won the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize—which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize in architecture—on February 28. He is the first Chinese citizen to win this award.‎ Wang serves as head of the Architecture Department at the China Academy of Art (CAA). His office is located at the Xiangshan campus (校园) of the university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Many buildings on the campus are his original creations.‎ The style of the campus is quite different from that of most Chinese ‎ universities. Many visitors were amazed by the complex architectural space and abundant building types. The curves (曲线) of the buildings perfectly match the rise and fall of hills, forming a unique view.‎ Wang collected more than 7 million abandoned bricks of different ages. He asked the workers to use traditional techniques to make the bricks into walls, roofs and corridors. This creation attracted a lot of attention thanks to its mixture of modern and traditional Chinese elements (元素).‎ Wang's works show a deep understanding of modern architecture and a good knowledge of traditions. Through such a balance, he had created a new type of Chinese architecture, said Tadao Ando, the winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize.‎ Wang believes traditions should not be sealed in glass boxes at museums. “That is only evidence that traditions once existed,” he said.‎ ‎“Many Chinese people have a misunderstanding of traditions. They think tradition means old things from the past. In fact, tradition also refers to the things that have been developing and that are still being created,” he said.‎ ‎“Today, many Chinese people are learning Western styles and theories rather than focusing on Chinese traditions. Many people tend to talk about traditions without knowing what they really are,” said Wang.‎ The study of traditions should be combined with practice. Otherwise, the recreation of traditions would be artificial and empty, he said.‎ ‎28.Wang's winning of the prize means that Chinese architects are ________.‎ A.following the latest world trend B.getting international recognition C.working harder than ever before D.relying on foreign architects ‎29.What impressed visitors to the CAA Xiangshan campus most?‎ A.Its hilly environment. ‎ B.Its large size.‎ C.Its unique style. ‎ D.Its diverse functions.‎ ‎30.What made Wang's architectural design a success?‎ A.The mixture of different shapes.‎ B.The balance of East and West.‎ C.The use of popular techniques.‎ D.The harmony of old and new.‎ ‎31.What should we do about Chinese traditions according to Wang?‎ A.Spread them to the world.‎ B.Preserve them at museums.‎ C.Teach them in universities.‎ D.Recreate them in practice.‎ D Sodankyla, a town just north of the Arctic Circle, boasts an average annual temperature a little below freezing. People there eagerly wait for the brief spell in July when the area enjoys something similar to summer. This year they may have wished for a bit less of it. On July 18th thermometers showed 32.1℃, which is 12℃ warmer than typical for the month and the highest since records began in 1908. But Sodankyla is not the only place that is burning.‎ Wildfires have killed at least 80 people near Athens. Japan has declared its heatwave to be a natural disaster. On the night of July 7th, the temperature in downtown Los Angeles did not drop below 26.1℃. That seems positively nippy compared with Quriyat in Oman, which recorded a 24hour minimum temperature of 42.6℃ a few days earlier.‎ Heatwaves bring problems, especially in the developing world. Studies have linked rising temperatures to violent crime and civil conflict. And heat can kill on its own. In 2003 more than 70 000 Europeans may have died as a direct result of an infernal (地狱似的) summer. No consequence of global warming is as selfevident as higher temperatures. Earth is roughly 1℃ hotter today than it was. If this socalled thermodynamic (热力学的) effect were all there was to it, temperatures now considered unusually hot would become more typical and those regarded as uncommonly cold, uncommoner still.‎ The effects could be disastrous. But at least people can learn from past mistakes. If only the world could take in a similar lesson about the importance of stopping climate change in the first place.‎ ‎32.What can we infer about the temperature in Sodankyla?‎ A.Its temperature in summer was fairly cool.‎ B.Its high temperature always sets a new record.‎ C.Its high temperature led to fire emergencies.‎ D.Its annual temperature is a little above zero on average.‎ ‎33.Which of the following best explains “nippy” underlined in Paragraph 2?‎ A.Hot. B.Cold.‎ C.Dry. D.Wet.‎ ‎34.What result will heatwave lead to?‎ A.Causing violent crime and civil conflict in the developed world.‎ B.Leading people to kill themselves as a direct result of a hot summer.‎ C.Making temperatures now considered abnormally hot more common.‎ D.Resulting in temperatures regarded as uncommonly cold more frequent.‎ ‎35.What is the main idea of the text?‎ A.Wildfires have become a natural disaster.‎ B.Global warming has become a disastrous issue.‎ C.Rising temperatures is linked to social problems.‎ D.Sodankyla is not the only place that is burning.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Color is fundamental in home design—something you'll always have in every room. A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you'll love to live in. Do you want a room that's full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? __36__, color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel.‎ Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. __37__, they can get a little complex. But good news is that there're really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.‎ ‎__38__. They're the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable.‎ Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves. __39__. They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space.‎ The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you're looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant. __40__.‎ A.While all of them are useful B.Whatever you're looking for C.If you're experimenting with a color D.Small color choices are the ones we're most familiar with E.It's not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces F.So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time G.Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分)‎ 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ While high school does not generally encourage students to explore new aspects of life, college sets the stage for that exploration. I myself went through this __41__ process and found something that has changed my __42__ at college for the better: I discovered ASL—American Sign Language (美式手语).‎ I never felt an urge to __43__ any sign language before. My entire family is hearing, and so are all my friends. The __44__ languages were enough in all my interactions (交往). Little did I know that I would discover my __45__ for ASL.‎ The story began during my first week at college. I watched as the ASL Club __46__ their translation of a song. Both the hand movements and the very __47__ of communicating without speaking __48__ me. What I saw was completely unlike anything I had experienced in the __49__. This newness just left me wanting more.‎ After that, feeling the need to __50__ further, I decided to drop in on one of ASL club's meetings. I only learned how to sign the alphabet that day. Yet instead of being discouraged by my __51__ progress, I was excited. I then made it a point to __52__ those meetings and learn all I could.‎ The following term, I __53__ an ASL class. The professor was deaf and any talking was prohibited. I soon realized that the silence was not unpleasant. __54__, if there had been any talking, it would have __55__ us to learn less. Now, I appreciate the silence and the new way of communication it opens.‎ ‎41.A.searching B.planning C.natural D.formal ‎42.A.progress B.experience C.major D.opinion ‎43.A.choose B.read C.learn D.create ‎44.A.official B.foreign C.body D.spoken ‎45.A.love B.concern C.goal D.request ‎46.A.recorded B.performed C.recited D.discussed ‎47.A.idea B.amount C.dream D.reason ‎48.A.disturbed B.supported C.embarrassed D.attracted ‎49.A.end B.past C.course D.distance ‎50.A.exercise B.explore C.express D.explain ‎51.A.slow B.steady C.normal D.obvious ‎52.A.chair B.sponsor C.attend D.organize ‎53.A.missed B.passed C.gave up D.registered for ‎54.A.Lastly B.Thus C.Instead D.However ‎55.A.required B.caused C.allowed D.expected 非选择题部分 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分)‎ 第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)‎ 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。‎ The polar bear is found in the Arctic Circle and some big land masses as far south as Newfoundland. I gave the class homework! The assignment was to “go to someone you love within the next week and tell them you love them. It has to be someone you have never said those_words to before or at least haven't shared those words with for a_long_time.” Now that doesn't sound like a very tough assignment,_until you stop to realize that most of the men were over 35 and were raised in the generation of men that were taught that expressing_emotions is not “macho (大男子气概的)”. Showing feelings or crying (heaven forbid!) was just not done. So this was a very threatening assignment for some.‎ At the beginning of our next class, I asked if someone wanted to share what happened when they told someone they loved them. I fully expected one of the women to volunteer, as was usually the case, but on this evening one of the men raised his hand.‎ He appeared quite moved and a bit shaken. As he unfolded out of his chair, he began by saying,“Dennis, I was quite angry_with you last week when you gave us this assignment. I didn't feel that I had anyone to say ‎ those words to, and besides, who were you to tell me to do something that personal? But as I began driving home my conscience started talking to me. It was telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say I_love_you too.”‎ ‎“You see, five years ago, my father and I had a_severe_disagreement and really never resolved it since that time. We avoided seeing each other unless we absolutely had to at Christmas or other family gatherings. But even then, we hardly spoke_to_each_other. So last Tuesday by the time I got home I had convinced myself I was going to tell my_dad I loved him. It's weird, but just making that decision seemed to lift a heavy load off my chest.”‎ ‎“The next morning I was up bright and early. I was so excited that I could hardly sleep. I got to the office early and accomplished more in two hours than I had the whole day before.”‎ 注意:1. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ At 9:00 I called my dad to see if I could come over after work. ________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2:‎ It was as if a dramatic change came over my dad. ‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________‎ Unit 5 单元测试卷 第一部分 听力材料:‎ Text 1‎ W: I can't decide whether to buy a new computer or try to find a secondhand one.‎ M: If you buy a new one, you'll probably save money in the long run.‎ Text 2‎ W: It's nice and quiet here, away from the noise of the city. Besides, our apartments are new and low in price.‎ M: It's a good place except that it's a little far from where we work. Anyhow, I'll take my wife this afternoon and give you a call tomorrow.‎ Text 3‎ W: It's already 7:20. We'd better hurry if we don't want to miss the beginning of the play.‎ M: Well, it takes only 15 minutes to get to the theatre and the play won't begin until 7:50.‎ Text 4‎ W: Professor Smith, good morning. I'm Susan with the local newspaper.‎ M: Nice to meet you.‎ W: Would you mind if I ask you some questions?‎ M: Of course not.‎ Text 5‎ W: I'm into Professor Gray recently.‎ M: Why?‎ W: To find out her way to handle her life. You know, she has five kids and teaches 7 classes and somehow she does it all.‎ Text 6‎ W: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?‎ M: Reading Reader's Digest, the most famous monthly magazine in the US.‎ W: Why do you like it best?‎ M: Well, it's got many years of experience and extensive coverage.‎ W: I think so. The articles in it help me understand your people and culture better. I always enjoy reading them.‎ M: I can see you're a careful reader as well as an observer. You know that's why so many people like reading it in the world.‎ Text 7‎ W: Jim, have you ever been to the National Stadium?‎ M: Not yet, but I'm going there tomorrow morning.‎ W: I'm sure you'll fall in love with it. And you had better take a bus tour. That's the best way to know the city.‎ M: Sounds great.‎ W: How about the zoo? Have you been there?‎ M: Yeah. There are many kinds of animals and it's one of the nicest zoos I have ever visited.‎ W: And you should visit the National Art Museum. It has a famous collection of ancient Chinese paintings.‎ M: Yeah. I have heard about that and I'll go if I have enough time.‎ W: Last but not least, don't forget to try some local restaurants. The foods are great.‎ M: Thank you, I'll.‎ Text 8‎ M: Hello, madam. May I help you?‎ W: I bought this MP4 here two months ago. But it doesn't work now, so I'd like you to mend it or return my money.‎ M: May I have a look at your sales slip, please?‎ W: Here it is.‎ M: I'm sorry, madam. The aftersale service ended five days ago.‎ W: But it had something wrong when I bought it.‎ M: Well, our workers can look at it, but there'll be a charge.‎ W: A charge? But it's not my fault. So could you...?‎ M: Sorry, madam. If we make an exception for you, we'll have to make one of everybody. So there's nothing I can do for you, madam.‎ Text 9‎ M: Young people are given too much freedom nowadays, and as a result they've lost their respect for their parents, teachers and elders in general.‎ W: I'm afraid I can't agree with you. My parents give me advice and never force me to do anything I don't want to do. I respect and love them.‎ M: Are you quite independent of them?‎ W: Yes. After I graduated from college and started to work as a teacher, I become economically independent.‎ M: It sounds that you are very close to your parents.‎ W: That's right. Nowadays many young people say they have nothing in common with their parents. Maybe, I think that is because they don't communicate with their parents. But I get along well with my parents. How about you?‎ M: Well, I cherish family life but I don't always get along well with my parents. They seldom allow me to do what I want to do.‎ W: But they allowed you to come to study in New Zealand on your own.‎ M: Yes, but only after a great deal of persuasion.‎ Text 10‎ Today I will tell you some interesting facts about pets in the US and Canada. My dad sounded still angry_with me even after such a_long_time,_but he finally agreed, not knowing my really purpose of this visit. At 5:30, I was at my parents' house ringing the doorbell, praying that Dad would answer the door. I was afraid if Mom answered that I would change my mind and not carry out my tough_assignment. But as luck would have it, Dad did answer the door. I didn't waste any time—I took one step in the door and said, “Dad, I just came over to tell you that I_love_you.”‎ Paragraph 2:‎ It was as if a dramatic change came over my dad. His face softened. The wrinkles seemed to disappear and he began to cry. He reached out and hugged me and said, “I love you too, son, but I've never been able to say it.” Two days after that visit, my_dad had a heart attack and passed away. So my message to all of you is: Don't wait to do the things you need to do. What if I had waited to tell my dad?‎
