If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals. If we look at someone else’s body, we can often tell how they are feeling by the signals their body is giving. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication. In case you don’t think that learning how to read and use body language is important, here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say, and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language. These non-verbal(非语言) signals will help you a lot in dealing with people, but you still need to focus on what people are saying. If you focus too much on their body language signals, you and the person may feel uncomfortable. It is useful to be able to read people’s body language, but it is equally useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals. Body language is open to interpretation. Many signals have different meanings, depending on the person and the situation. Keep this in mind when you are mentioning the numbers in the passage. 21. What’s the purpose of the writer’s mentioning the numbers in the passage? A. To explain what body language is. B. To show the importance of body language. C. To tell us body language is less used than verbal language. D. To tell us body language is the only tool in communication. 22. What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence in the last paragraph? A. Body language is widely used all over the world. B. People have already written many works on body language. C. Body language can be explained in different ways. D. It’s too hard to understand the meanings of body language. 23. According to the author, body language is very __________. A. useful in communication B. easy to misunderstand C. hard to understand D. simple to learn 24. What would the author most probably discuss in the next part of the article? A. What the wrong body language signals are. B. Examples of how to understand body language correctly. C. Numbers relate to how many wrongly used body language. D. An analysis of why people wrongly understand body language. B Noticing the signals that people send out with their body language is a very useful social skill. Here are some tips for you to learn to read body language. Pay attention to how close someone is to you. The closer he is, the warmer he is thinking of you. The farther away that someone is, the less he actually cares of the situation or person. If you move a little closer to him, does he move further away? If he doesn’t move further away, he is receptive(易接受 的 ). And if he responds by getting even closer to you, he probably really likes you or is very comfortable around you. But please keep in mind that what is considered close in one country is far away in another! People who look to the sides a lot are nervous or lying. If someone looks down at the floor a lot, he is probably shy. It is believed that in some cultures looking at someone in the eyes is a sign of respect. If his eyes seem far away, that usually manifests that he is in deep thought or not listening. People with crossed arms are closing themselves to social influence. Though some people just cross their arms as a habit, it may suggest that they are uncomfortable or just trying to hide something on their shirts. If someone rests his arms behind his neck or head, he is open to what is being discussed. During a talk, if a person who wears glasses is pushing them up onto his nose again, with a slight frown(皱眉), that may also suggest he disagrees with what you are saying. 25. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. How to show feelings with body language. B. How to make your friends close to you. C. How to communicate with others. D. How to read body language. 26. If a person keeps a short distance with you, it means __________. A. he is a receptive person B. he wants to tell you some secrets C. he feels nervous about your meeting D. he likes you or feels comfortable around you 27. What does the underlined word “manifests” in the third paragraph mean? A. Suggests. B. Produces. C. Expects. D. Believes. 28. What does pushing glasses up onto the nose, with a light frown mean? A. The person doesn’t understand your words. B. The person is not listening to you carefully. C. The person has a different point of view. D. The person is open to what is being discussed. C At thirteen, I was diagnosed(诊断) with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not. In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.” She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are no difference from your classmates, young man.” I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home. In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind. Wasn’t I the “Blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was no different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up? I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day—with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See 必修四 第四单元 第 5页 | 共 10 页 单元测试卷 必修四 第四单元 第 6页 | 共 10 页 单元测试卷 what you can do when you keep trying?” 29. Why did the author not finish the reading in class? A. Because he was new to the class. B. Because he was tired of literature. C. Because he had an attention disorder. D. Because he wanted to take the task home. 30. What do we know about Louis Braille from the passage? A. He had good sight. B. He made a great invention. C. He gave up reading. D. He learned a lot from school 31. What was Mrs. Smith’s attitude to the author at the end of the story? A. Angry. B. Impatient. C. Strict. D. Encouraging. 32. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The disabled should be treated with respect. B. A teacher can open up a new world to students. C. One can find his way out of difficulties with efforts. D. Everyone needs a hand when faced with challenges D As well as their meowing(喵喵叫), cats depend very strongly on body language to communicate, both with other cats and with humans. Some behaviors are obvious and easy to read, while others can be more confusing. One of the most obvious behaviours cats have is when they weave(穿行) themselves between your legs and rub against you. When they do this, they are of course both leaving their smell on you, and letting you know that they consider you “one of the family” and love you. Similarly, when your cat jumps up onto a high place so that he is at hand or eye level with you, he is letting you know that he wants to be touched and to rub against you. When you cat climbs into your lap while you are sitting (or sleeping) and starts to touch you with his paws, it might be an uncomfortable feeling but your cat is letting you know that he is comfortable and feels protected with you. Another easily-recognized behavior in cats is when their ears are flat against their head, their fur is standing up straight and/or their back arched(成弓形). This of course means that your cat is feeling threatened in some way and just wants to protect himself. However, if your cat stands sideways with his fur on end, with his tail raised, it means that he feels very fearful. This behavior is usually seen when there is another strange cat around. And if your cat is feeling nervous, unsafe or unwell, he will usually hide under a table, chair or in or behind some other small objects or boxes. Cats are social animals and like to communicate with their owners and other cats whenever they can, using a mixture of body language and meowing. It does not take long at all for a cat owner to learn what his cat is trying to tell him, and once he does, the relationship between him and his cat can only improve. 33. How may a cat show its love to you according to the article? A. By getting close to you. B. By jumping onto a higher place. C. By meowing continually to you. D. By standing face to face with you. 34. What should you do if you want to get along with your cat? A. Hug it as often as possible. B. Try to keep it out of any danger. C. Stay with it as long as possible. D. Learn to communicate with it well. 35. From the passage we can infer that the author _________. A. is managing a cat care center. B. is raising a lot of animals at home C. is always ready to help other people D. is good at reading cats’ body language 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Middle school is a great step in any kid’s life.
